Her Life
Oprah was born on January 29, 1954. She is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist which means the love of humanity. She has been ranked the richest African- American of the 20th century, and names "Queen of All Media." Oprah is best known for her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Oprah grew up in poverty in Mississippi. After many years of abuse, she ran away from her home. She said that during her childhood, she was molested and became pregnant at the age of 14, but her son died in infancy.
Oprah's first show she hosted was WLS-TV's half-hour morning talk show. The first episode aired on January 2, 1984. Within months of Oprah taking over, the show went from last place to first place, and was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show.
