Special Edition, Summer 2020 (3rd update: 7/9/20)
Connection and Healing
The Counseling Center joins the graduate student community in expressing grief, sorrow and compassion for the racial injustice and violence occurring across our nation. These events reflect a longstanding and entrenched history of systemic racism that we condemn and are dedicated to addressing.
While these tragedies can be traumatizing for all of us, we recognize that they may be especially injurious to members of our Black and African-American communities. In the aftermath of experiencing or witnessing this trauma, a range of emotions might be felt, such as shock, fear, sadness, anger, helplessness or guilt.
We encourage graduate students to join us in the following spaces of support, and to consider some additional resources below:
"White Accountability for Dismantling Racism" on Tuesday, July 21st at 3pm
Join a conversation for white students to explore barriers that prevent us, as white people, from engaging in racial equity work. This space will focus on addressing ways we perpetuate harm and contribute to individualized and systemic racism. This conversation is an important step in dismantling racism without relying on people of color to do the emotional labor. Please use the Zoom link below to join the conversation. Feel free to email Jason Parcover, PhD at jparcover@loyola.edu or Brad Bryk, PsyD at bjbryk@loyola.edu with any questions about the space.
