CBE News- Activity Information
CBE Co-curricular activity update and guidelines
Dear Parents and Guardians of Carl Ben Eielson Students:
FPS realize the positive impact that activities have on the health and well-being of our students. The district is taking steps to provide an experience for our Middle Level students to participate in co-curricular activities. This plan is tentatively scheduled to fulfill the first 5 weeks of school (from September 2nd-October 2nd) and hopefully beyond as our COVID task force will continue to meet and determine the operating level of FPS.
FPS has decided to run an intramural program with our 7/8th grade students. Coaches will provide skill development and fundamentals of the game. Scrimmages will be conducted within each program without the presence of fans. Students will attend their activity practices only on the days they are in school. A calendar of days has been attached at the bottom of this letter. Practices will run from 4:00-5:30. Once practice has concluded, students will be asked to leave the building as quickly as possible. Students who attend the Virtual Academy will be allowed to participate and assigned to one of the two groups and attend practices only on those days. Parents/Guardians of Virtual Academy students will need to provide their own transportation to and from practice.
These decisions were not made hastily. Decisions on both participation and fandom were made in conjunction with the FPS Health & Safety Plan, CDC Guidelines, Cass County Public Health Guidelines, the ND SMART Restart Guidelines, and other administrators. Call Mr. Wilson with any questions at 701-446-1706 or email: wilsond@fargo.k12.nd.us
6th Grade Activities
6th grade Intramurals have been temporarily postponed until further notice. As levels change, we will continue to communicate with you in regards to when it will be appropriate to continue with Intramurals.
Football
8th grade football will be delivered as a 7 on 7 format. Helmets will be provided by the coaches, and players are expected to provide a mouth guard. On August 24th, Group 1 football players (alphabet A-K) should report to Carl Ben northside entrance at 4:00 PM to receive their helmets and meet their coaches. On August 25th, Group 2 football players (alphabet L-Z) should report to Carl Ben northside entrance at 4:00 PM to receive their helmets and meet their coaches. If this day does not work for you, your son or daughter will receive their helmet on the first official day of their group’s practice. The first official practice date will be September 2nd for Group 1 and September 3rd for Group 2. Practices will be held at Carl Ben Eielson, and our student-athletes should be picked up right after practice.
Volleyball
7th and 8th grade girls will have the opportunity to participate in volleyball. No equipment will be handed out for volleyball so participants are expected to bring practice equipment on days their group meets. Group 1 volleyball players (alphabet A-K) will meet for their first practice on September 2nd. Group 2 volleyball players (alphabet L-Z) will meet for their first practice on September 3rd. Students will only practice on their days in school and practices will run from 4:00-5:30 at Carl Ben. Once again, students who attend the Virtual Academy will be allowed to play and assigned to one group and attend practices only on those days. They will have to provide their own transportation to and from practice.
