West Central High School

First Week!
I just want to start by saying thank you so much for your patience as we welcome our students back school. It has been a bit of a balancing act trying to meet everyone's expectations while following Alberta's public health orders. At times, you may be frustrated or confused, but please understand that this is not a normal year, and processes you expect may not be possible because of mandatory health requirements. I encourage parents to please call the school or drop me an email if you have questions or concerns. I may not always be able to give you the answer you want, but I can certainly explain the situation. We have some updates and information you may way to know about...
Lockers
We are able to phase in locker use starting with our grade 9 students. They are in cohort groups and we have located their lockers next to their first-period class and out of the main hallway area. They were able to use their lockers today.
Grade 10 lockers will be located in the CTS wing near their first block classes.
We find that grade 11 and 12 students rarely use their lockers and do not have four core classes (all four textbooks) like our grade 9 students.
Because of a limited number of lockers available, grade 11 and 12 students will be able to request a locker on a first-come, first-served basis through an online form. We will be posting the form and notifying students later this week when we know how many lockers will be available.
Students are allowed to access lockers before school, at lunch and after school. They can't use them during class change because this is the highest traffic time.
Demographic Forms
Please return these forms completed this week. Thanks so much!
Parent Advisory Council
It is typical for high school parents to be less involved in their children's school as they get older, but West Central has struggled with getting enough parents involved in our PAC. We meet once a month and get an update from our board member, Heidi Hetherington, discuss new business, get information and provide feedback to the principal.
Our next meeting is Sept 16 at 7:00 by Google Meet. Please email stacey.wigley@wrsd.ca to receive your Google Meet invitation. We will be looking for parents to fill all council positions so don't be shy. We would love to see you!
