Update from Mrs. Weber
Congratulations to Jacob D (grade 2), Emerson B (Kindergarten), Madisyn D (grade 2), Natalie B (grade 2), Elli Mae K (grade 2), Ian S (grade 2) and Brooklyn O (grade4) for being recognized as January Superstars. These students demonstrate teamwork, flexibility and initiative each and every day. Congratulations!
Student behaviors have seen an uptick in the past two weeks. All classes have had reteaching of the recess and cafeteria rules and expectations as an entire grade level. Grade levels work to earn table points in the cafeteria which can lead to extra recess time for them.
There have been many discussions around what you say to each other matters and that too often conflicts result from unkind words being spoken. Please talk with your child about the words they are using while speaking with their friends as well as following the school rules and expectations. I appreciate your assistance with this.
Registration for the 2023-2024 school year will begin February 1st. Students who are turning 5 on or before December 31, 2023 are eligible to register. We will be sending more information out as we get closer. If you would like the registration packet sent home ahead of time so that you can begin filling it out, please let Mrs. Quinlan know and she will send it home with your child. Appointments will be made for you to complete the registration process in person.
NWEA testing has finished testing in grades 2-4 and started in K&1-I am looking forward to seeing the amazing growth each student has made so far this year! I am so proud of everyone's hard work.
If your child is getting lunch/breakfast please check the parent portal to see if there is any balance owed. You can send in cash, check or pay online.
Any adult coming to pick up a student must have photo ID with them. Each staff member will ask for that ID every time. You can take a picture of it on your phone to have as well. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe.
Please know that any information about your child receiving free/reduced lunches is completely confidential. Teachers, office staff, cafeteria staff and myself do not know who does or does not qualify. If you have filled out the application for free/reduced lunch and have not heard anything back or would like to discuss the result, please call 203-924-1023, ext 312.
Students may send in Valentines as long as they make one for each member of the class. Only snacks approved by Nurse Judy may be sent in-there cannot be any candy sent in at all. Any candy sent in will be returned.
Just a reminder that smartwatches and smartphones need to be turned off during the school day. If your child needs anything, they should be letting their teachers know and they will handle it.
Students will be going outside for recess each day unless it is raining. Please be sure to dress your child for the weather-the playground is quite windy .Children are often complaining about the temperatures. If all classes are outside, everyone must be outside regardless of what they are wearing. We have extra coats in lost and found that students can wear for recess.
In case of inclement weather, it will be announced on the Shelton Public Schools website, I will tweet it and you can see the announcement on various TV stations. As a parent, I signed up for text alerts from NBC and usually receive those first.
If we have a delayed opening, school doors open at 10:45 and the school day begins at 11:00. Expect the bus to show up 2 hours later than on a regular day. There is no breakfast available on late start days.
Every day that school is closed for weather adds an additional day to the end of the school year. After 10 snow days, additional days are taken from April vacation week. Please plan accordingly
Have a great weekend--Mrs. Weber
