CLASSROOM PLACEMENT PROCESS 24-25
Our teachers will be working together over the next few weeks to begin the extremely important process of assigning students to classrooms for the upcoming school year.
Class lists are developed and revised a number of times prior to the end of the school year. We keep these lists tentative throughout the summer to accommodate any changes in enrollments. Classroom/teacher placements will be announced in August. The in-depth placement process begins now as teachers meet with their teams, the principal, and specialists to discuss and recommend classroom assignments using the following criteria:
• Maintain an academically heterogeneous group
• Balance the male and female ratio
• Balance classes with a variety of needs and personalities
• Match student learning style and teacher’s instructional style
Our commitment is always focused on meeting the needs of both the individual student and the needs of each class. As a parent, if you wish to provide information that may help in this process, you may write an email to me in which you:
• Describe what you know about how your child learns
• Describe the learning environment in which you see your child thriving
• Your letter should NOT contain a request for a specific teacher
Once these letters are received, they will be reviewed and considered in the process. The deadline date for submitting any parental input regarding students’ placement for the 2024-25 school year is Friday, April 26. Please address this information in a letter or email to Jen Shattuck at shattuck@hhasd.org. Requests should not be made directly to teachers.
Please rest assured that with or without a letter, we will review each child’s needs individually and select the classroom that we believe will be the best fit for your child to learn and grow.
FRIESS LAKE REUNIFICATION DRILL: THURSDAY, MAY 2
As part of our school’s safety plan, we conduct safety drills to ensure staff and students are prepared for all types of safety scenarios. We conduct fire and tornado drills, lockdown drills, and last year we practiced an evacuation drill. In order to prepare for a possible relocation, this year we will be holding a PRACTICE reunification drill.
According to the Standard Response Protocol, “Crisis recovery starts with the crisis, not after. Without a plan to reunite students and parents, we exacerbate the stress and potential trauma of the crisis itself and we jeopardize the responsibility of the school and district in maintaining the chain of custody for every student. No school is immune to emergencies; fires, floods, tornadoes, blizzards, power outages, bomb threats, gas leaks, acts of violence. This is a short list of events that could initiate a release and reunification for a school or district.
A predetermined, practiced reunification method ensures the reunification process will not further complicate what is probably already a chaotic, anxiety-filled scene. In fact, putting an orderly reunification plan into action will help defuse the emotion building at the site.”
This reunification drill will be held at Northbrook Church on Thursday, May 2. Students will be released from Friess Lake and will ride the bus with their grade level to Northbrook Church. Once at Northbrook, students who typically ride the bus transition to their regular bus and then will ride the bus home. Students who attend YCare will also ride the bus to Richfield Middle School before returning to Friess Lake around 3:45. Students who are being picked up will need to be picked up at Northbrook Church rather than at Friess Lake. Pick up time will begin at 3:15; however since parents/guardians will need to go through the reunification process, the pick-up time will be longer than usual. If you have students to pick-up at Richfield Middle School we would appreciate it if you pick your middle schoolers first and then pick up your elementary schooler at Northbrook Church.
Once arriving at Northbrook Church all parents are asked to park on the east side of the building. You will enter the doors to the main lobby and will exit on the same side of the building.
Park on the east side of the building in the main parking lot.
Bring your completed reunification card with you. If you forget, we will have greeters walking through the parking lot who can give you a new card, and will help you with the initial steps in the process.
More details will be provided as we approach the date of the relocation drill; however we wanted to provide advance notice to families.
Please reach out to Jen Shattuck with any questions. The district safety team has been working together with Northbrook Church to make this an organized and productive drill. We appreciate your support as we navigate this and look forward to seeking your feedback following the drill.
YEARBOOK COVER: STUDENT'S CAN DESIGN! TURN IN BY APRIL 10TH
SPRING SING - APRIL 18
On Thursday, April 18 our 2nd-4th grade students will have their spring concert in the gym at Friess Lake. Doors will open at 5:00 and the performance will begin at 5:30. Students should be to their classrooms between 5:15-5:20.
Please be sure to keep your children with you until they are dropped off in their classroom. Students should be supervised at all times. Any children not performing should sit with their parents/guardian in the gym.
FORWARD TESTING CONTINUES
Our 3rd and 4th graders continue their Forward State testing this week. It is important for our students to get rest, eat a good breakfast and be ready to do their best. This assessment is a huge part of our school rating and state report card. Students who miss testing dates will need to make up the testing when they return. Please try your best to have student at school during these testing times.

HHOPS WELCOMES DONATIONS
HHOPS has started requesting donations for the Celebrate Families virtual auction held in April. If your family has any interest in donating a basket or item to auction off, we would welcome the contribution! Or perhaps your employer would be willing to donate. We are hoping for a great offering this year so we can beat last year's fundraising goal! Proceeds raised will go towards the purchase of new playground equipment at FLES.
