Kuiper Belt
WE'RE SCREWED.
IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD. KIND OF.
-The Kuiper Belt is a region in space. It's full of icy objects and comets.
- The region is much smaller than Earth's moon.
-The Kuiper Belt is a doughnut-shaped ring, extending just beyond the orbit of Neptune.
-No spacecraft has yet studied the Kuiper Belt up close. NASA, however, will investigate the region after they study pluto.
The kuiper Belt (the Movie)
The first satellite of a KBO (Kuiper Belt Orbit) was found, scientists have discovered a total of seven KBO satellites.
Findings call into question the formation of KBO satellites by standard collisional processes. The satellites themselves, have been significantly underestimated.
The Kuiper Belt was the source of the periodic comets that dazzle us as they pass through the inner solar system.

Some astronomers had a theory about the Kuiper Belt in the early 1900s. One of them was Gerard Kuiper. In1951, Kuiper said that some kinds of comets might come from the Kuiper Belt. These comets could possibly effect Earth and come close enough to cause damage.
Pluto is now considered a part of the Kuiper Belt
The Kuiper Belt is made up of over 70,000 pieces.
