celebrate Positive Parent Interaction
One of the ways NP3 staff demonstrates relationship building and communicate with a student's family is to make a positive phone call home! Why? It connects the parent with the school in a positive way, motivates the student, celebrates the great things that are happening, and validates and recognizes the student. Everybody wins!
Take a look at NP3 positive Pirate action!...
Luis had one call in particular that he really enjoyed making. He had a student who had repetitive issues in his class, mostly involving disruptive behaviors followed by refocuses. The behaviors of the student warranted a call home to consult and share these with the student's dad. After the initial phone call, the student showed dramatic improvements in his choices of behavior. Luis called home again, but this time, it was to congratulate the student's choices. In the end, the parent and student were both happy with the contact Luis had made and the outcome that ensued. Mitzi also made a positive contact with a parent regarding one of her students. She made an effort to follow up with a parent after they had met for a conference. She shared a compliment the student had made about his mom (to Mitzi), in addition to a positive suggestion to support the student (regarding a behavior previously discussed at the conference).
Way to go Pirates! Your communication affects others and is noticed! Reflect: who have you called home about? What's your goal for Q2 positive Pirate calls?
Alternative ways a parent can talk to their child about school and your class!
