A Piece of the Rock Documentary Film
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Every year thousands of Bermuda residents are involved in road crashes. Between 2009 - 2015, there have been 12,808 road crashes and 75 road fatalities. On average at least 1 in 5 people have been to the ER for a road crash within the past 7 years. We at MSA continually worry about road conditions and the safety of our students who are now travelling by bike to and from school each day.
A Piece of the Rock is a documentary film and campaign to raise broad awareness on the chronic issue of road crashes in Bermuda and bring about a positive change in the mindset of the Bermuda residents. As part of that objective, a compelling documentary film has been developed and has been shown on a number of occasions over the past month in local theatres. The organizers want to widely engage people across all sections of Bermuda, especially the youth through a strategic road safety campaign that will complement the documentary. Their goal is to provoke conversation and bring this important issue to the forefront of the public psyche.
To support this initiative and support this end, we will be showing this documentary film at no cost to our students in grades 9-12. Staff will be in attendance but we would also like to invite parents to the film and discussion. The screening begins promptly at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16th in the MSA auditorium. We are the only school in Bermuda thus far to have this opportunity for our students to view this documentary within our building.
After the 70-minute documentary, there will be members of a panel present to answer questions and engage in dialogue and discussion with our students.
We hope that you will consider viewing this amazing documentary which we feel is especially beneficial to students about to or taking Project Ride as well as students already riding a cycle on Bermuda’s roads.
