Dear Ravenwood Families,
Wow! It’s May and the end of our school year is literally just days away. This month is filled with lots of field trips, field day, student performances, and celebrations! The Ravenwood school community has proven to be very resilient as we have successfully completed the whole year in-person thanks to our incredible teachers, staff, and families working together. We have been so fortunate to keep our classrooms open and Covid case counts down throughout the year. We have also welcomed many new parents into our classrooms as substitutes who have helped maintain instructional momentum due to substitute shortages. Thank YOU!
Speaking of thanks, this week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation! PTSO sent out a flier detailing some ways your children can show their gratitude to our fabulous Ravenwood teachers and support staff members. We are fortunate to have a wonderful team of professionals supporting our learners here at Ravenwood, and we look forward to making them feel extra special and appreciated throughout the week.
Please “dig in” to this newsletter to learn more about upcoming events and see some fun photos of recent events! Let’s enjoy our last days of school and finish strong!
Joyfully,
Kim Bautista
Congratulations on your Retirement Mr. Lum!
How do we measure the impact of 30+ years of teaching music?! For Mr. Lum it has been filled with love and joy for countless students who learned how to read music, sing, and play a variety of instruments including: ukuleles, ORFF instruments, recorders, and handchimes. His love of music filled our school, hallways, and student homes as students practice them to prepare for singalongs, performances, musical plays, or for a concert on the road – as they were often requested to perform for various community groups throughout our state.
Mr. Lum always had our students stepping into the spotlight to share their talents. Even during Covid, he found a way to keep the music going by hosting online choir and talent shows! He has been an incredible teacher, colleague, mentor, and dear friend here at Ravenwood and throughout the Anchorage School District, serving in many leadership roles throughout his tenure.
Mr. Lum, we will be forever grateful for the songs you put in our hearts and the love of music you gave thousands of students throughout your career!
Mahalo!
