March Fun from 1st Grade
March is always a fun month of lots of learning and MUD! Our playground gets especially muddy this time of year, so if your child has mud boots it would be great to send them in for recess time. St. Patrick’s day is always a big hit and this year wasn’t any different. While none of the first grades were successful in catching any leprechauns, we certainly enjoyed trying! Engineering the leprechaun traps was a perfect time for students to experience “perseverance”. If an idea didn’t work, students found another way to make it happen. There was a lot of creative thinking and problem solving happening. It was nice to see them working together and sharing ideas too.
Family Fun Night is coming up on March 21st, 5:00-6:00 pm. It is always so much fun to watch families, students, teachers interacting with one another and engaging in learning together. Literacy and reading is such a huge part of learning that happens daily here at school and this is a way to use these skills at home.
Friday, April 5th is an early release day and teachers will be available for parent conferences throughout the afternoon. First grade teachers will be sending out conference sign up times. We can meet by phone or in person.
The 1st Grade Team looks forward to meeting with you!
News From 2nd Grade
We are feeling lucky this St. Patrick's Day in second grade! We have been moving right along in math and are quickly getting ready to start a new unit. This new unit will be all about numbers to 1,000. This includes figuring out place value, comparing numbers using greater than, less than, equal to and different ways to represent a number. We are continuing to work through our current reading module- Everyone Has A Story.
Family fun night is on March 21st, at 5:00. The second grade team looks forward to seeing you and your family that night and learning about literacy. You will also be able to sign up for parent/ teacher conferences on April 5th.
As a reminder, data day is March 22nd, and there is no school for students that day. April 5th is an early release day.
We wish Ms. McCormack a speedy recovery from her upcoming surgery. We will miss her greatly, but we look forward to welcoming back Ms. Musgrave as her long term sub. Ms. Musgrave taught at WES for 39 years and we are excited to have her back on the second grade team.
Enjoy the sweetness of teacher- student twinsies!! (not planned)
3rd Grade News!
We have started a new unit on fractions. The students are learning about numerators, denominators, and the concept of having to have equal parts to make a fraction. Try using fractions with your child while cooking! This is a great way to show them the real world of math.
On Wednesday, we took the SAS writing test. This is a test of writing for the state of New Hampshire. Students were given either an opinion, a narrative, or an informational prompt to write about. On Friday, we took the STAR tests in reading and math. STAR is our district assessment that we use 3-4 times a year to monitor student progress on state standards.
The students (and teachers!) are looking forward to some nice spring weather! Our playground has been pretty muddy, so boots would be of great help to alleviate the problem of wet sneakers! Boots for outside, and sneakers/shoes for inside.
The school wide Family Fun Night is March 21, 2024 at 5:00-6:00. The last family fun night focused on math. So, this one will focus on literacy. There is no school on Friday, March 22, 2024. This is a data day for teachers.
