Women's History Month
Resources to Celebrate the Stories of Women-Past and Present
"From the first settlers who came to our shores, from the first American Indian families who befriended them, men and women have worked together to build this nation. Too often the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who build America was a vital as that of the men whose names we know so well."
-President Jimmy Carter's Message designating March 2-8, 1980 as National Women's History Week.

Local Stories
We usually study "famous women" during March. But, we all have amazing women in our lives and in our communities. I often told my students about my maternal grandmother whose only claim to fame was surviving the Great Depression and Dust Bowl on a dry-land cotton farm in West Texas. I wanted all of my students to know about how hard work, faith, and perseverance can shape future generations. Without her story, there would be no me!
