Biographical Information
Frederick Douglass was an African-American social reformer,Writer and a Civil Rights Activist. He was born February 1818 in Tuckahoe, Maryland and dies February 20, 1895 in Washington D.C. He escaped slavery at the age of twenty and changed his name to avoid being recaptured later on. He didn't know his mother very well and only meet with her four to five times before she died when he was seven years old. Fredrick Douglass had 2 spouses in his life before he passed away, Ann Murray-Douglass from 1839-1882 and Helen Pitts Douglass from 1838-1895.
Frederick Douglass's Goals
His main goal was to abolish slavery in all of its forms, promote the moral and education improvement of colored people. Frederic is a very powerful speaker but his first time speaking in 1841 at the church of the Rev Thomas James, he was very shy but as he went on he became more confident and more sure of himself. He started his goal when he escaped slavery and he wrote so many books on slavery and his experiences with it. In Frederick's petition he was very successful, he was a African- American trying to abolish slavery and its not something everyone will be on your side about. He did open so many peoples eyes on the subject and tough them things they wouldn't really know unless they were a slave them self.
