The Door That's Not Locked
The web offers incredible possibilities as long as you are aware of the risks. By understanding what the online world offers, you can empower your child - with skills to help him/her engage
with technology in a safe and responsible way. As your child gets older, you will notice changes in his/her behavior and interests. While it's exciting to see your child seek more independence, there are new personal and online safety concerns that you should be aware of as well.
A good source of information regarding what you should talk to your child about, and what you can do as a parent, is the website, thedoorthatsnotlocked.ca. This information was
provided to SMS from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, a registered charity dedicated to the personal safety of all children.

#BecauseofYou
Article written by a student reporter:
The month of March was International Women's Month! And to celebrate it, our school decided to make a bulletin board celebrating how far women have come and how they inspired us. This year’s International Women’s Day theme has been #becauseofyou. We have learned that Canada was changed for the better because of the women who have helped and influenced others to be themselves and have fought for women’s rights. We also learned about the history of women’s rights, how women have been discriminated against, and how we can help fight for women’s equality. At SMS some classes put posters up with the #becauseofyou hashtag, thanking a woman who has inspired them. Now girls all over the world have been using this hashtag to help and influence others too!
