Stanwood Middle School
Family Message — Sunday, March 3rd, 2024
Good afternoon Stanwood Middle School Families!
Empowering Our Spartans
With the calendar already in the third month of 2024, we are in the middle of our march to Spring Break.
Soon you will receive more information from our staff regarding Spring Conferences--Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 29. As in our previous practice, teachers will first reach out to families for conferences and then all families will have the opportunity to schedule a conference with teachers.
As always, please keep the lines of communication open. As we march toward not only spring break, but the end of the year with studies, assessment, and activities, it is imperative we continue to work together for all of our Spartans to find success!
Got Games?
Our library is looking for donations for card games or other games students could enjoy during their free time. If you have any board games, decks of card (especially UNO), or other such items, please consider bringing them in for our Spartans to use in the library.
What’s New in the SMS Library?

Spartan Pride Awards
Each week we find time either during lunch or the morning announcements to honor the students who show of PRIDE. You'll received the write up for prominent display on your refrigerator. We appreciate all of our Spartans and how they work hard across so many areas each day.
Staff Spotlight
We are super happy to announce our new attendance secretary, Kristin Petree. Having worked as a para-educator since 2018, Mrs. Petree most recently worked in the Assist program at Port Susan. She also currently supports the Traffic Safety program as a secretary.
She's excited to start as the attendance secretary on Monday and be able to work with students, staff, and families.
Speaking of families, outside of work she likes to spend time with her husband and three children--their school and sporting activities keep them on the go! Mrs. Petree also enjoys reading, baking, and watching stand-up comedy.
Welcome Mrs. Petree! And if you need to call to report attendance, you can call 360-629-1352.

Please take our annual Community Survey
How are we doing?
For the second year in a row, the school district is asking the community to take a 10 minute survey to help us plan for the future.
Last year, more than 1,300 community members took the time to share their thoughts. The feedback helped us adapt our processes, procedures, and systems — such as how we communicate with families and where best to prioritize investments. This is all in an effort to ensure our priorities are aligned with those of the community.
Please share the link to as many people as possible! We don't want to miss anyone because all the input will help shape the future of the school district for years to come.
See SHS's family friendly spring musical!
The Stanwood High spring musical — Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" — opens this week!
The play will be presented at 7 p.m. on March 8, 9, 15, and 16. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students — can be purchased at the box office or online via GoFan. Don't miss this play for the whole family.
This is your opportunity to witness our vibrant student talent as they bring “Cinderella” to life with flair and finesse.
Help us fight fentanyl
Please join us for an important community safety forum.
Fentanyl Awareness Night will teach students, families, and the community what you need to know about this danger that’s now laced into most street drugs.
This synthetic opioid is being pressed into fake pills — and it’s 50x more potent than heroin. A lethal dose can be only 2 milligrams.
Local criminals are marketing these pills to our children.
Join us at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Stanwood High School to hear from local, state, and federal experts about how to protect yourself and your family. This free community forum is open to everyone.
