Beginning with the End in Mind (AM)
Room 215
This session is designed to explain the importance of long-range planning to improve daily instruction. When teachers select text-sets thoughtfully around an enduring understanding, they help students set a purpose for every text they read. Careful backward design means that teachers share the culminating, end of module task at the outset so that students know where they are heading and can collect relevant evidence to complete the end task successfully. Every lesson has both a short-term and a long-term goal in mind.

Participants will have the opportunity to work through each strategy. Come learn how to use each of these strategies using just ONE text. (That means 4 small group activities using just ONE text!) Participants will leave with another text that works with the 4 strategies for their classroom with supporting notes as a parting gift!
Presenters: Laura Burgard and Corey Gurskyj
AVID (AM and PM)
Room 104

Participants will utilize some AVID foundational strategies while looking through the lens of the WICOR components to be used with all students in order to become college and career ready. These collaborative strategies can help keep students engaged and teach them how to use their student voice in an academic setting. We invite all schools, AVID or not, to come join us as we share useful, effective instructional strategies that can be implemented right away.
