Have Only Positive Expectations
Growth Monitoring vs. Star Math vs. You ...hands down I choose YOU
Of course, times have changed. We've embraced our next type of growth monitoring. As a school, we have all of the tools to continue moving student at a sustained but accelerated rate of upward and forward progressions. The answer...the tool is not i-Ready. The tool and resource is YOU. Teachers, you possess all of the power. to make a difference for students. Your appearance of pride in student accomplishments that I've seen you present to your students, your deeper digging into learning right by your student's side and those probing higher level questions you are consistently asking is what is making the difference. So it's you! You make a difference.
So the newly assigned growth monitoring...why you ask? why more? Again, depending upon where you worked is how it was used. But the more you know the more opportunity you have to respond with a sound and informed answer...right? So let's give our students more information about themselves. Let's me give you a new conversation piece, a place to begin goal setting, goal monitoring and most importantly a CELEBRATION! In recent growth monitoring 20-25-minute goal check... that is less time than some of the lessons take. Teachers can get beneficial and motivating numbers to share with students on were they are on their individual path to grade level or above scores.
So in comparison...same goal; a new system for monitoring the achievement of goals.
Watch the short video below to see an example of how the report will lock after assessments. Find out how the need growth is determined.
Student Online Instruction Log
We will have teachers choose what questions are appropriate for their students. The logs that are included are only i-Ready documents that the company suggest are good questions for monitoring Engagement while learning. They are not meant to judge levels of learning or proficiency.
As the Instructional Expert, of your classroom, you know what you want as feedback from your students. The questions will be your option to create or choose for your students. You have the autonomy to differentiate. If you choose one of the following three premade logs; let's be creative on saving copies. Students should write the question(s) and answer for each activity on regular paper or do electronic. They will not receive a copy for each lesson. I've included below several ideas

How often are you using worksheets for instruction and homework each day? How can we reduce the number of worksheets used during the school day?
Teacher - Student relationships
How can we change the tone of how we address students? It’s not what you say sometimes it’s how you say it. Model what they expect. The modeling sessions may have to be repeated a number of times, but model the expectations (Behavior and Instruction) with grace and respect for the student.
