History of Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day did not become a holiday until the 14th century. It originated as a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine. Back in the day people would exchange affectionate letters to St. Valentine. Valentine’s Day is celebrated to show appreciation towards the ones you love. Back then people would celebrate by writing love letters to each other. Nowadays, in America people give chocolate, flowers, loving cards, candy, and even chocolate covered strawberries! Did you know that 30 countries around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day? France was the first country to celebrate Valentine's Day. --Audrey
Class Spotlight: K4
The CCA Pre-K class, taught by Mrs. Kernohan, is currently learning about the alphabet. They are learning how to write the letter Y. They have also begun doing reading circles to help them build the skill to read outloud. The most recent Bible story they have learned is the story of Jesus telling the disciples to be fishers of men, helping in calling them to Christ. -Vivian

Chapel
On Friday, chapel was opened with pledges, singing and prayer by the 4th grade class. The speaker was Beth Houdyshel from Berea Christian Camp in New Hampshire. She spoke about summer camp at Camp Berea.
Berea was one of the towns that Paul went to. Matthew 18 is the scripture passage that Beth spoke about. When we do wrong to someone, we must ask for forgiveness. Jesus said that He would always forgive us no matter what we have done. The 'Parable of the Unforgiving Servant' from Matthew 18:21-25 details the story of a servant who was forgiven a massive (unrepayable) debt, only to refuse forgiveness to another servant who owed a relatively small debt. It's easier to extend grace to others when we feel God's forgiveness. Beth ended chapel by quoting Galatians 5. --Emma

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
On Friday, Feb 2nd, HS students had their monthly FCA meeting led by Jeffery Adams. The meeting started with a friendly competition and was followed up by discussing how the Houston Texans rookie quarterback, C.J. Stroud, gave glory to God after he brought his team to victory. The news however, cut this out of his interview, as it could cause conflict. The discussion was that even if people may not agree with C.J.'s Christian stance, they should still give recognition to the Lord, as He is the one who leads us to victory. - Maggie F.
JH had their FCA meeting on Friday, 2/9.
