13 April COVID Update
Update on COVID-19 at Lauriston School
Kia ora Koutou ma whanau o te kura Kotoku ko Lauriston,
A reminder for whanau, today is the last day of Term 1 for our students as tomorrow is a Staff only day at Lauriston School.
Term 1 has been another challenging term for our school and I cannot end it without saying a big thank you to our dedicated and hard working team who have demonstrated adaptability, resilience, genuine manaaki-care and commitment over this term to keep school going as normal.
We have been determined to keep our school open while continuing to provide exciting and engaging opportunities for our students, while also making it possible for whanau to connect back on site at school. This has been no small achievement, and as the whakatauki for the week states-we have been successful by working together, not only as a staff, but also in partnership with whanau who have been receptive, appreciative and supportive of our COVID response planning as it has evolved over the term: Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari, he toa takitini. Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.
I would like to acknowledge Julia Davey, Elyse Adams, Tania Wallace and Libby Chambers for their support this term-through their efforts we were able keep all our classrooms running despite the impact of Omicron on our team and on our community. With many schools forced to close or remain partially open, I have been so proud of the way we have all worked together to keep our school going.
In this regard, as many of you may or may not know, I have been away from school over the past two weeks, isolating like so many of our families, looking after loved ones through their illness, while also attempting to work from home and then inevitably, coming down with the virus myself.
I would like to acknowledge and thank Georgina Turpie and Laura Twiss, my Kahukura kaihautu-leadership team for ‘holding the fort’ in my absence. I have enjoyed their fresh energy this term and have seen how we have all been motivated by their example and leadership-Ka mau te wehi korua!
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the support and commitment of our BOT to the life of our school. The BOT have given many unseen hours over this term to support the strategic focus of the school and to continue to provide a safe learning environment; focused on the whole child and the waiora-well being of students, staff and whanau. In particular, I would like to tautoko Wiggy (Craig Wiggins) our BOT Chair for his tremendous aroha, support and manaaki for our whole school. I have been genuinely moved by the commitment Wiggy has to empowering our people. It is so refreshing to meet someone who also seeks to be part of the solution, leading in a way that is mana enhancing for all.
I know that our team are all looking forward to the school holidays, to enjoy a well deserved break-yet equally, I know that we are excited about the new term ahead.
Tomorrow is a day for staff to reflect on what has been, to publish their Literacy narratives around student progress over this Term and to firm up our plans for Term 2. We look forward to a fresh start, where the opportunities for community to come together again can be realised.
Until then, from myself and the Lauriston Team, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Easter weekend and all the best for the school holidays.
We look forward to seeing you all again on the 2 May, 2022.
