WIN Time Intervention & Enrichment
Hello Teachers,
I hope all of you are enjoying the second week of the school year. I have missed being at school and I am eager to return from my professional development class. Over the last week, I have been challenged to learn about new topics and work collaboratively with many different kinds of people that I just met. All of my classmates have different skillsets with varying educational backgrounds. Some of them are CEOs and others have entry-level positions at their organizations. We all learn very differently from one another. Working with this cohort of individuals reminds me of our diverse faculty and student body at Nativity. Many of you are learning about new resources, grade levels, and forging working relationships with your new colleagues. Be kind to one another, reach out to one another, and support one another. Thank you for your commitment to teaching our students and the hard work you are doing.
As we start to get into the swing of the school year, you are gaining insight into your students. Some of them are showing you that they need more support to access grade-level concepts, others are where you need them to be to get to work and another group of them are hungry for a bigger challenge. Now is the time to start thinking about WIN Time (WHATEVER I NEED) and how you are using it.
What do intervention and enrichment look like at Nativity? :
In PreK-1st Grade, teachers are consistently planning for learning centers that differentiate instruction and learning activities that meet the needs of their students.
In 2nd-5th Grade, teachers are engaging in a dedicated time of the day, WIN time, to meet the needs of their students. Students identified for Enrichment classes are going to attend class with Ms. Wiecht during this time in the Innovation Lab. The Title I teacher and resource teachers will also utilize this time to provide small group instruction to those students that qualify. The grade-level teacher will then take advantage of the smaller class size to provide targeted interventions to the students remaining in the classroom. These interventions can range from skills from a prior grade-level or the reteaching of a lesson from the same day to reinforce content.
In 6th-8th Grade, teachers are engaging in a dedicated time of the day, WIN time, to meet the needs of their students. Students will be engaging in elective classes and their availability of choices is dependent on their academic level. The resource teacher will also utilize this time to provide small group instruction to those students that qualify. The grade-level teacher will then take advantage of the smaller class size to provide targeted interventions to the students remaining in the classroom. These interventions can range from skills from a prior grade-level or the reteaching of a lesson from the same day to reinforce content.
If you have any questions about analyzing your student data or need help finding resources to plan for WIN Time, please don't hesitate to reach out. Differentiation and small group instruction are not optional, they are required best practices to meet the diverse learning needs of our students.
In appreciation for all that you do,
Jenni

NWEA MAP Growth Fall Testing Window
In 4th-8th grades, teachers will schedule testing with their grade-level partners.
3rd Grade will receive a specific Tech Lab schedule.
Kindergarten-2nd Grade will test on the iPads in their classrooms.
All testing will conclude by August 30, 2019.
Reporting Grades in Rediker
In 3rd-8th Grades, teachers should be entering a minimum of 1 grade per subject per week in Rediker. The expectation is that grades will be updated weekly. Our detailed grading policy is in the Family Handbook that was shared with you at the start of the school year. You can also find the document below for your reference.
In PreK4-2nd Grade, teachers should be recording student mastery of standards/concepts as you cover them in class so that you can report accurately at the middle and end of the trimester how students are progressing. You do not need to enter weekly grades in Rediker since you do not assign letter grades.

Also, if you teach science, we do not use the Florida standards and having the Next Generations Science Standards app is very useful for planning. You can find the app here.
