8th Grade Weekly News
Week of September 23 -27
General News!
Happy Monday!
Now that we have had our first progress reports, and students have had an opportunity to take advantage of Zero Period and After School help sessions, we would like to meet with some of you who may still have students who are struggling a bit. Our first priority will be students who are currently failing two or more of their core content classes. This week we will begin setting up appointments for our student lead conferences. Someone from the front office will be calling to schedule appointments for our first round of these. Please wait to be called, so that we can accommodate everyone. Currently we are looking at Tuesday, October 15th from 7:30-11:00 am (This is a teacher workday, so the students will not have classes) The second will be held on Monday October 21st from 1:30-5:00 pm. We would like your student to accompany you at your scheduled time, since they will be sharing their own information with you.
Tomorrow, the Son's of the American Revolution Marshes of Glynn Chapter will present reenactments of some of the most famous moments in Georgia's history during the Revolutionary time period. Our 8th grade students will have the opportunity to meet these famous folks and ask some questions about events they will be discussing in their Georgia History classes.
After School Camps are a wonderful opportunity to get yourself back on track. This is great for students who have missing assignments due to absences, or need some extra help with a specific skill or assignment. Please remember, these afternoons are for students who have received an invitation to attend. The permission form must be signed and returned in order for the student to stay. A quick reminder, Math and Science meet on Wednesday afternoons, and ELA and Social Studies are on Thursdays. Also, remember eighth graders get picked up at the end of the 8th grade hallway in the bus loop. If they have younger siblings staying after school too, they will be asked to join us on 8th grade hall.
Zero Period is offered daily from 6:55 am- 7:25 am. Students who need a little extra help in a content area, some time to complete unfinished homework or assignments, or just need a little support to help them start off their day, will find this very helpful. For this first quarter students who are interested should touch base with the following teachers: ELA-WAXMAN, Math-HOLLOWAY, Science-GOELLER, Social Studies-BENSE, FULLER and ROSARIO are also available during this time. If your child is interested, or in need, and does not have class with any of these teachers, please ask them to touch base with their content teacher so we can make arrangements to get them the help they need.
Have a great Bobcat week!
