The Hornet Singers have diligently worked these past few weeks to prepare for their final performance for the semester. We are learning a lot about what our voices can do with the various styles of music and are eager to show that off this week on Monday, Dec. 14th. The concert will begin at 7pm in the FMS Gym.
8th grade Arts Alive are jumping into the meat of the content now and have been learning about the string instruments of the orchestra. The students are always on their toes as they enter the classroom as they know they MUST read the board to even know how to sit in a class that day! New adventures daily!
Harmony Hornets is in full swing and doing well! Students are catching on to their parts and challenging themselves to do more every week. With once a week Tuesday rehearsals, it's impressive what we've been able to accomplish. Dr. Moebes and I are proud of their hard work and can't wait for them to perform Monday, Dec. 14th at 6pm in the FMS Gym.

In addition to continuing to improve their keyboarding skills, 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in year long classes began an "Hour of Code" this week. The "Hour of Code" was very successful and will be a weekly activity throughout the rest of the school year.
Along with improving their keyboarding skills, 6th grade students reviewed the identifications & functions of computer parts this week. They will be assessed on them Tuesday. The Hour of Code Tuesday was so successful with 7th and 8th graders, we decided to give our 6th graders a taste of coding too! They were up to the challenge and were very successful with their coding projects.
One of the exploratory activities all computer students used this past week involved making animated GIF images. All grade levels will make GIFs with predetermined criteria this coming week and their creations will be posted on our classroom website so we can share them with you. The link to view them will be provided in our next newsletter.

There are quite a few classes scheduled to check out books from the library during our last week before winter break. This means that technically the books will be due during our absence. Obviously, this will not happen. There are a few gullible kids out there who vow to have their books back on time and adamantly agree that nothing will prevent them from returning the books by the stamped due date...until I mention the locked school doors and their eyes widen in realization. :) In all seriousness, students are reminded to keep track of their library books over the break and while traveling to visit friends and relatives. All books will need to be returned when school resumes in January.
As always, feel free to contact me at tschenewerk@fulton58.org with any questions or concerns. Enjoy the extra time with your family and have a safe and happy holiday season!
