A Medical Musician's Journey: Healing Body, Mind & Soul
The Glass Box - The New School, 63 Fifth Avenue, NYC
Andrew Schulman with Marvin McMillen, MD, FACS, MACP
In 2009, musician Andrew Schulman lay in a medically induced coma for two days following complications from major surgery. With vital signs destabilized and in free-fall, his critical care physician declared him to be "toast." The next day, with perhaps hours left to live, Schulman's wife Wendy had an epiphany and sought permission from the medical staff to connect Andrew to his iPod, playing his favorite work by J. S. Bach. What happened next was declared a "medical miracle." Join us for an evening with Andrew Schulman, a guitarist who has appeared in Carnegie Hall, London's Royal Albert Hall, and the White House, along with Dr. Marvin McMillen, the trauma surgeon and critical care intensivist of 35 years who saved Schulman's life.
