Class of 2020
Light Up the Night and Graduation Update
Light Up the Night June 11th 9:00 PM
Seniors and Families:
Join us in celebrating the graduating Class of 2020 as we Light Up the Night on Thursday, June 11th at 9pm! Over the last 13 years, the students in the Class of 2020 have worked hard and positively represented our school and community with their accomplishments in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, on the court and within the community. It is once again time to create some special memories and celebrate you, the "Class of 2020"!
On Thursday, June 11th as we host this special event in your honor, we will also be passing out your yearbook and other personal memorabilia from your time at Gananda. Starting at 8:45 pm please line up in your cars in the back parking lot of Ruben A. Cirillo High School. We will have cones out to direct you where to go. Please feel free to decorate and light up your cars to recognize and celebrate the “Class of 2020”.
Starting at 9:00pm, we will begin handing out yearbooks along with other special items to each of you individually. Here is how it will work:
The first car in the line up will be directed to pull into the back bus loop.
You (the student) will be handed your yearbook/goodie bag by a staff member.
We will take pictures and staff members will celebrate you.
You will then exit the parking lot.
Important things to remember:
We are still practicing social distancing.
You must stay in your car.
Stay in line and do not pull up next to anyone else's car.
Staff will be wearing masks and gloves.
Do not try to gather before or after the event.
You will not be able to enter the building for any reason.
We look forward to seeing you all Thursday, June 11th. If you cannot make it that evening, please contact Mrs. Graves Makham at hgravesmarkham@gananda.org to make different arrangements to pick up your yearbook and other items.
Thanks,
Mr. Mahoney
Graduation Update
On Tuesday, June 2, school districts in the Finger Lakes region received guidance on what will be allowed for graduation this year. This guidance matches what was previously released in St. Lawrence and Onondaga counties last week. While the guidance is not what we had hoped for, at least it gives us an answer so that we can move forward. As such, our options for graduation are: 1. A drive-in style or 2. A virtual style ceremony.
Several people have asked about doing a ceremony on the Varsity field, unfortunately, that will not be an option. The superintendents in our region have spoken with Senator Helming, Assemblyman Manktelow, and Robert Duffy about outdoor ceremonies and the use of our athletic fields. We know that they carried that message forward and we thank them for their efforts on behalf of our students.
Based on all of the information provided, we will be holding a drive-in graduation on Saturday, June 20 at 9 PM. In the event of rain or wind, June 22nd will be the alternative date.
