Second Grade Takes First Communion
Second grade students celebrated their First Holy Communion on Saturday morning during a special Mass. In the words of Pope Francis: "The Eucharist is at the heart of 'Christian initiation', together with Baptism and Confirmation, and it constitutes the source of the Church’s life itself. From this Sacrament of love, in fact, flows every authentic journey of faith, of communion, and of witness."
Spring Band Concert
Music Learning Band members from Catholic schools in the Fort Worth area were invited to perform at the Spring Band Concert hosted at St. Joseph's in Arlington.
We had two 4th grade SMG winners for their respective sections:
- Jon-Anthony Villa: Outstanding Beginner Rhythm/Percussion Section
- Jesus Aguirre: Outstanding Beginner Brass Section
Way to go 4th graders! We are so proud of your accomplishments. Many thanks to Band Instructor, Mr. Cullen for his leadership.
Pre-K Music Class "Informance"
Music teacher, Mrs. Richards, invited Pre-K parents to attend a special Music class informance after drop off on Wednesday. It was a chance to observe students participating and performing their favorite classroom routines, songs, and activities. Informances are a wonderful opportunity for preschoolers to shine in a low-stress, familiar environment.
Muffins With Mom at the Book Fair
The Follett Book Fair was a huge success! A big Thank You to Mrs. Jamison and all who volunteered to make the week so much fun for all who visited the book fair. Last Tuesday, SMG students enjoyed Muffins with Mom, munching on muffins, coffee and juice with their moms while browsing the Book Fair in the school library.
Grandparents Day 2019
SMG Grandparents joined us for Mass on Friday followed by a Band performance in the gym. First grade entertained us with a mini musical in the cafetorium, after which grandparents were invited to a delicious breakfast. We enjoyed the opportunity to honor our grandparents and show our appreciation for their strength. guidance, and love. Thank you to Mrs. Claudia Clark and Mrs. Robyn Coffey and their team of volunteers for organizing the beautiful breakfast!
Sports Banquet
The sports banquet is a night to celebrate our SMG Trojan athletes and their accomplishments. We also take this time to thank parents and volunteers for their help and support, which helps to make our athletic program so successful.
Each year, Saint Maria Goretti Catholic School recognizes an overall outstanding 8th grade boy and girl athlete with the Timberlake Award. Eligibility for the Timberlake Awardis open to all 8th grade boys and girls who have participated in at least two SMG extracurricular sports programs during their 8th grade year and remained eligible throughout that year with no grade lower than a “C.” The award is voted on by their peers, teachers, other staff members and coaches. Congratulations to this year's Timberlake Award recipients, Ashlyn Wessel and Brian Larson!
6th Grade Outing - Free Play Arcade
Sixth grade students had a fun filled afternoon at Free Play Arcade in downtown Arlington. The establishment offers classic arcade games like Pac-Man, Z-bert, Frogger, Mario Bros plus many more. Thanks to Miss Juergens for hosting the event.
8th Grade Sand Volleyball Outing
Texas Image Volleyball was a hit with 8th grade students.
What was volleyball originally called?
The game of volleyball, originally called “mintonette,” was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan after the invention of basketball only four years before. Morgan, a graduate of the Springfield College of the YMCA, designed the game to be a combination of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball.
