Westside High School Jazz Combo Performs at Charleston Jazz Festival
On January 21st, the Westside High School Jazz Combo had the honor of being selected to perform at the 4th annual Charleston Jazz Festival. Taking place at the College of Charleston Sottile Theater, the Westside Jazz Combo performed various styles of jazz music as some of our state's premier jazz performers and educators looked on. Some of these individuals even "sat in" with the Westside Jazz Combo. Headliners at this event included Nnenna Freelon, the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, and Kenny G. The Westside High School Jazz Combo is an integral part of the Westside High School Jazz Program. Students within the combo consist of: Sincere Hatten on Alto Saxophone, Tyleek Clinkscales on Trumpet, Nathaniel Pugh on Piano, Dalvin Gray on Drum Set, and Thomas Brown on Bass.

Students who attempted this challenge were Tyleek Clinkscales, James Glymph, Ryan Malcolm, and Mary Evelyn Stansell. Out of hundreds of auditions, two of our students were selected to the SCBDA Region II Honor Band: Tyleek Clinkscales on Trumpet and Mary Evelyn Stansell on Clarinet. An honorable mention also goes out to James Glymph for being selected as 3rd alternate on Bari Saxophone.
