The Westmoreland Wrap Up
March 28, 2024
Traveling Planetarium
Thanks to the Fair Lawn Science Department, the Starlab Portable Planetarium System brought the universe right to Westmoreland School! Our students were able to view the nighttime sky, observe the stars, planets, the moon and other celestial objects as they appear in the evening sky. Students really enjoyed this experience.
Westmoreland Stamp Designs
The stamp designs we received this year were OUTSTANDING! Student's creativity, use of color and artistic talents were truly shining. It was difficult to select one per grade level for our school wide vote! Stamps designed by the following students were "finalists" for the big vote:
Kindergarten: Zachary Miletti-Moore
Grade 1: Emma Ersan
Grade 2: Tess Baxter
Grade 3: Joanna Shala
Grade 4: Swara Pathak
Congratulations to Joanna Shala's design for winning the most votes. Joanna's stamp will be used for the Westmoreland mail this year!
National Letter Writing Month
April is National Letter Writing Month. Throughout the month, students will learn the art of writing a friendly letter. Westmoreland mail will be delivered, courtesy of our 2nd grade post-people, each Friday. Addresses for classrooms have been provided for parents, should you wish to send a letter to your child. Simply send your letter to school and your child's teacher will be sure they are placed in our school's mailboxes. Students get VERY excited when they see our mail truck rolling up and down the hallways each Friday afternoon. Mail delivery dates are: April 5th, April 12th and April 19th.
If you've never seen our school's mail truck...buckle your seat belts, it may be the cutest thing you've ever seen🙂
ELL Program Highlights
As part of their unit on citizenship and community, K-4th grade multilingual students planted Mammoth Sunflower seeds to beautify their home and school communities. Once sprouted, students will donate these giant sunflowers to Westmoreland and plant them in their neighborhoods for all to enjoy!
Autism Acceptance Week
To expand upon our understanding and awareness, some special activities will be taking place during the week of April 2nd. Students and staff will show their support of friends with Autism by wearing specific attire each day.
