Land of READ-A-LOT
Maidens and Lords have started their first of 3 Patricia Polacco story books. We are focusing on the story elements: characters, setting, plot, and theme. Students are also leanign the 5 types of context clue strategies that help good readers figure out the meaing of tricky words! We are all enjoying this book study!! We hate to put the book away for the day!!
Missions in Math
The Kingdom has been finishing up the multiplication and division unit 2. We tested over unit2 today and will begin unit 3 next week. Monday will be a pre-test for unit 3 and after reviewing the results Monday night, we will move forward with quadrilaterals and fractional parts!
Soaring in Science
Our Kingdoms have been exploring six different materials in order to find the one that will work best to replicate an artifact!! They are working as small teams and testing durablity, strength, weight, and overall quality of these 6 materials!!
WRITING that is Worthwhile
Our Maidens and Lords worked very hard organizing a MEL-CON this week. This type of writing is very detailed and requires the students to read two nonfiction articles and search for evidence that supports a given purpose question. This week we read articles that required us to decide if video gaming is rotting young minds and bodies!!
ALL HEADS UP FOR NEXT WEEK...
- The new district webpage was launched toay!!
- Please continue to visit our third grade blog for newsletter information and classroom updates. Go to http://wcgrade3.blogspot.com! Once we have access to changing things on the new district site, we will have a direct connection from the district site to our blog!
- Every student should be reading for their 300 minute monthly reading calendars! The January calendar is due Monday!
- If you have not helped your child set an AR goal for third quarter by Monday, we will be working with your child at school. Most everyone has returned these sheets signed and did a nice job choosing an attainable goal!
- Please wear a warm coat, gloves, and a hat for the 30 minute recess. It is too cold outside to have exposed body parts!!
- Because of recent days off, our math benchmark test will be on Monday (Leonard) or Tuesday (MacNeil). We will be sending home growth reports for math once these assessments are completed!
