A note from Principal Hewick
Hello Westfield Family~
This is a very important time of the year when we meet to discuss student progress. This Thursday, November 21st will be our first round of parent-teacher conferences. Thank you in advance for this vital collaboration.
The Adult Social was a great time! Thank you to all those that came and those that helped with planning and organizing the event. A special thank you to Nikki Battles, the PTC chair, along with the many volunteers (Josephine Brewer, Maritrese Chaudoir, Catherine Davenport, Sara Fort, JoAnn Gantar, Nikoleta Konstantinov, Monica Lagunas, Jackie Rickert, Isabel Rubinas, Reagan Fuqua-Sar, Emily Fredrick, Beth O'Reilly, Cory Blalock, Joan Klaus) that helped assist her in making it such a successful event. It is always great to get out and mingle as a community. Thank you to those that also provided so many wonderful silent auction items, and to those that made silent auction bids making it possible to purchase items such as a display case that will be used to showcase the diversity within our school community.
It looks as though our warm days are behind us for a while. We will be outdoors for recess when the 'feels like' temperature (which includes the combined wind chill and air temperature) is 10 degrees or higher. That being said, students will need warm outerwear. When snow is on the ground and they wish to play in it, it is required that they have the Fab 5; boots, coat, hat, gloves/mittens, and snow pants. Otherwise, they will need to play on the blacktop where they can remain dry.
This year, Community Consolidated Consolidated School District 89 is conducting a district-wide equity audit. The purpose of this equity audit is to examine the district’s current practices and create a plan to ensure equal access and opportunities for all students. The audit will involve staff, families, and students at different points in this year-long process. I am hoping you will consider being part of this work by participating in a focus group discussion at Westfield. It will take place on Monday, December 2nd. Please be on the lookout for a separate email with more details and sign up coming out today. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me (shewick@ccsd89.org or 630-858-2770. Thank you.
This year, the CCSD89 schools continue to partner with Glenbard South High School with a peer buddy program. Students from GSHS will be at Westfield tomorrow afternoon helping out our students in classrooms in a variety of ways. We look forward to having their assistance again this year.

Did you know that over 400 families in Community Consolidated School District 89 are getting by with very limited resources? This equates to several children in your child’s classroom! You can help make a difference by supporting the District 89 Community Outreach annual gift card program. On your next trip to Aldi, Jewel, Walmart, or Target, pick up a gift card in amounts between $10 and $25 and return it to school by Friday, December 13th. You can send it to school with your child or drop it off in the office the next time you are in school. With the help of the PTC Community Outreach teams, most of the gift cards will be distributed to families before the holidays. A few will be shared with families during the year, as special circumstances arise. CCSD 89 Social workers will see that these gifts are shared where there is a need. Thank you in advance for your support!
