Antietam
The Battle Of Antietam took place on September 17, 1862. The battle took place between 87,000 Union Troops and 45,000 Confederate Troops. the assualt had begun when Joseph Hooker's Union corps launched an assualt on Lee's left flank. While Lee sent in his entire force, McClellan sent in less than two-thirds of his fighting force. When it came to the retreating of the Confederates, McClellan neglected to pursue them and deal a decisive blow.
The Casualties Of The Battle
There were an estimated 22,717 casualties between both sides. There was an estimated 12,401 Union casualties and 10,316 Confederate casualties.
Burnside's Bridge
Major General Ambrose Burnside and his men pushed across this bridge and managed to harm the Confederates before a Confederate division from Harpers Ferry pushed them back.
The Union General
Union General George B. McClellan though a bit hesitant when it came down to the end, was a fairly well general who commanded his men in the battle of Antietam.
The Confederate General
Confederate General Robert E. Lee was a fearless general who never backed down. Though often outnumbered by the Union, he proved to be more decisive with his outstanding military tactics.
Emancipation Proclamation
Though considered a draw by military standards, Lincoln and the Union claimed the battle as an Union victory, Lincoln used this victory to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.

the battle took place at Antietam, Maryland and was part of the Maryland campaign. After the battle, it pushed Confederate forces out of Maryland.
