~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Heritage Families,
Happy New Year!
We are excited to welcome 2022 at Heritage. We closed 2021 with so many fond memories and are looking forward to an exciting 2022. Thank you for your support of our students, staff and school during last year. We could not achieve everything we have without you behind us. Heritage is a special place to be, and each of you contributes to our community.
With the new year upon us I'd like to wish you my best for continued happiness, laughter, love, health and success. We have the whole year in front of us to make an impact on those around us, and I'm looking forward to joining you in spreading positivity.
Here's to 2022!
COVID Protocols for January
District’s Masking Policy
Due to the recent surge of COVID-19 and based on the recommendation of our Lorain County Health Department, we will require masks January 3rd- January 28th for grades PreK-12th for students and staff. This will help keep our students and staff in the district for in-person learning. Mask exemptions that were previously submitted will still be honored. We ask that you continue to keep your Eagle home from school when sick and report any positive COVID cases. We realize there are many strong opinions on the issue of facemasks. The above policy will allow us to continue with in-person learning which has always been our goal.
Changes in Communication Regarding Positive Cases/Close Contacts
As protocols evolve, it is important to ensure we are able to track and communicate information in the most efficient way possible. The district will continue to update information on the Avon Local Schools Dashboard regarding the number of positive COVID cases in each building for both students and staff. To streamline communication, buildings will only be sending out notifications of positive cases for specific classrooms, buses or extracurricular activities. You will only be notified by email if your child is in the class/bus/activity of a student that tested positive. This will eliminate additional emails of other buildings/district notifications that do not relate to your child. If you are interested in case counts of other buildings, then you can access this data through the district dashboard.
Quarantine Guidelines
As you may be aware, the CDC recently reduced its recommendation for isolation and quarantine guidelines of asymptomatic positive cases from 10 days down to (5) five days followed by required mask use for five (5) days. The Lorain County Health department has also recommended we suspend contact tracing. Students will no longer be considered “close contacts” and subject to isolation protocols or extended quarantine days. Parents will be made aware of their exposure through email and will continue to report to school as long as they are symptom free.
Our goal has always been to keep our Eagles in school, safely learning. We appreciate your support and wish your family a healthy new year!
NOTE: Regardless of what is required in the schools, it is still a Federal requirement that all drivers and riders wear a mask on district transportation vehicles.
Information Regarding 3rd Grade Ohio State Test
In October, our 3rd graders took the Ohio State Test(OST) in English Language Arts to gauge where they were in their reading and writing development. Last week we emailed home the score your child achieved on this test, along with ideas on how you can support your child at home. Together, we are looking forward to seeing your child’s score rise when they take this same test again in the spring.
To keep everyone up-to-date on changes to the law concerning 3rd grade testing results, there has been recent legislation allowing districts flexibility in the retention component of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. This flexibility allows us to work as a team for your child, making the best decision we can for their future. No longer will 3rd graders in the state of Ohio be retained solely based on their score on this OST. While those of you who have 4th and 5th graders understand this law no longer applies to you, we still felt it was important for you to know in case you have a younger child who will be entering 3rd grade in future years.
