Lincoln Summer Updates
July 22, 2019
Welcome and Introduction
Dear Lincoln Parents and Community,
Now that I am finally settled in, I would like to take this opportunity to officially introduce myself as the new building principal at Lincoln Middle School. I am truly honored to have this opportunity to return to my hometown of Park Ridge and to serve the school, the District, and the community. I am confident that this year will be a successful one for your student, and I look forward to partnering with you to ensure their growth as students and as individuals.
As previously mentioned, I was born and raised here in Park Ridge. While I did not attend D64 schools, I am familiar with the community and I know the excellent reputations that Lincoln and the other District schools hold. It is the collective commitment of the Lincoln staff that I know will continue to provide students the meaningful opportunities and positive experiences necessary to be successful in middle school and into the future. We are looking forward to the students’ return next month, and we are looking forward to providing encouragement and support to make the middle school experience a positive one for all.
While you will be receiving a more detailed communication in the coming weeks, I do want to bring you up to speed on some of the summer happenings in preparation for next school year. There is a lot happening at Lincoln and in the community.
Summer Renovations
If you have driven past the school recently, you may have seen some activity at the building. Our LRC and cafeteria are both getting updates to the HVAC systems. Yes, the cafeteria will now be air conditioned! There is also current construction happening on the third floor to add a student hallway in the industrial arts wing. Additionally, the old PA/intercom system is being replaced and the leaks in the roof due to the older building design are being remedied. Lastly, there will also be some resurfacing of areas in the parking lot in the near future.
A huge thanks to the District and building maintenance teams for all they are doing in preparation for the return of our students. We look forward to having you see some of these changes when you visit Lincoln for Curriculum Night in September.

Summer Reading
The Park Ridge Library has developed summer reading programs geared to interest all ages and levels of readers. Additionally, our own D64 librarians and tech coaches have provided tips to help parents identify great books and resources for each grade level. Watch our YouTube video here.
We would like to encourage you to help your child enroll in the summer reading programs offered at the Park Ridge Public Library, so please continue to encourage your child to learn and grow, even during these summer months.
A Little More from the Principal...
I would like to make note of my ridiculously-spelled last name. Yes, I realize that there are a bunch of consonants with a vowel dropped in there, and I know that the “z” is confusing. Because I have been asked by some how to pronounce Szwed, please know that the jury is out even within my own family. I pronounce it “Swed” (just dropping the z). Others in the family say “Shwed.” I respond to either, so take your pick. Both are fine by me. Should you need to be in contact, I am now up and running on email and via office phone. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
Just know that I am excited to get to know more about you and your student. I will take time in August to share more about myself and more about our partnership as a Lincoln community. Looking forward to it!
