13/5/22 - He Pānui Wiki Rua, Whānga Tuarua
Tēnā koutou i tēnei ahiahi (good afternoon/evening everyone).
It has been awesome to see students getting fully involved in NZ Sign Language Week. After a cold and gloomy start to the week, the last couple of days have been all sunshine and happiness. Now that we are moving into winter, please see that your children have lots of warm layers on - a thermal is a great base layer option. We will be ventilating our spaces but not to the extent required during the summer months. Fresh air is necessary so classrooms will be a little cooler than usual. We are still using the heat pumps and monitoring temperature/Co2 levels using the digital readers supplied by the MoE.
We have made the call to postpone the Whānau Working Bee/Picnic/Classroom Tour/Cricket match, until Sunday the 22nd of May. We realise that some of you may now not be able to come - apologies for this, the weather is forecast for persistent rain and that is not ideal for picnic's and cricket. Fingers crossed the following Sunday is better.
Values Focus This Week
The NZ Histories Curriculum Documents have been released to schools. We are excited about the new format of this curriculum document and look forward to running a whānau workshop in Term 3 to introduce you to the content of the curriculum. There will also be an opportunity for whānau to share their local stories of our area so that we can weave these into our localised curriculum - all will be welcome. Please see the links below to the online curriculum documents.
Each year we celebrate and undertake learning about Matariki. We are on a 3 year cycle for this & we are lucky to have Hurunui-o-Rangi Marae whānau assisting with the planning. Year 1 - during the day whānau group activities; Year 2 - an evening of soup, lanterns & waiata; Year 3 - an early morning matariki breakfast, stories & star gazing. This year (2022) we are back to the Year 1 activities. They will be happening on Monday the 27th of June.
FoGS (Friends of Gladstone School) met last night and have locked in Saturday the 12th of November for the Scarecrow Fair. This year's theme is 'Space'. We are in the process of divvying up the jobs and would welcome some keen organisers to facilitate either the cake stall or the monster auction. There is a great plan already in place from previous years to work from, we just need someone to oversee each of these sections. For other areas of 'duty' those people who usually oversee them are going to be contacted shortly to check that they are still happy to do the jobs - we hope so as you're all amazing!
