Tradition, Culture and Sharing
An important aspect in an e-Twinning Project
Our e-Twinning project INSPIRE: MATHS IN ENGLISH
We are so enthusiast of our project started on March 2016, because we have learned lots of interesting things, and, above all, we have met real friends we are exchanging with ideas, videos, and Cultural Boxes .
Even if its main goal is sharing strategies to let students appreciate Maths in everyday life and English as a useful means of communication to make lots of friends, we are happy to have time to speak about our own traditions and cultural aspects.
This happened, for example, on January 18th when during a Skype meeting we told our Turkish friends our traditions and icons.

Importance of one's own culture
telling aspects of our own traditions means appreciating our own past, origin and culture.
Hello from Turkey!
Skype sessions make meetings so close, familiar and funny!
Christmas season in Foggia, Apulia, Italy
Our Turkish friends were curious about our traditions during Xmas time in Italy. So, we decided to do three different videos about that. By working in groups, some students of V A tried to explain a traditional Italian Xmas game: TOMBOLA, the Italian Bingo.
Tombola: how to play it
This is a nice slide from the video about Tombola. The protagonists are some students of V A.
An interesting detail
A fun feature in this traditional game is the association of Italian icons to numbers. One is linked to Italy!
Finding similarities with the Turkish culture
The number 88 is associated to a special Italian cheese, called Caciocavallo. The students discovered it is also part of the Turkish culinary tradition!

The Xmas atmosphere in Foggia
But, in the streets of Foggia, what sort of atmosphere do we feel during Xmas season? Some students of III A described it through a nice video that shows the idea of magic, of fun and of the pleasure of the table!

Italian Xmas icons
Another group of students worked on some typical symbols of Xmas in Italy and in particular in Apulia region. They emphasized geometric shapes in these icons. The result is this short video.

The Importance of communication
Students involved in this e-Twinning project love Skype sessions. They have discovered the beauty of dialogue, the importance of meeting, the pleasure of sharing, asking for and answering. Both Italian and Turkish students are experimenting the value of frienship and of communicating even if English is not always perfect.
Did you enjoy our videos?
Skype sessions are interactive. Each material is presented and explained. That is the beauty of conversations in English.
Answering the quiz
The Turkish students answered some questions about the videos presented by their Italian friends. They were so good!
This is Apulia!
At the end of the Skype session, Italian students showed a big original display about Apulia, where their town is located.
Apulia : a lovely region in Southern Italy
At the end of this fantastic meeting, the Italian students presented a special map of their region : a coloured tea towel showing some peculiar symbols of Apulia.
This is "Puglia"!
This is an overall display of Apulia with its main icons: olive tree, Indian fig, folk dance and "Trulli" (special houses).
Where is Foggia?
Foggia is located in the north of Apulia. In its province the Gargano is located. It is the "spur" of Italy and it is famous for its white cliffs and lovely seaside resorts.
Shall we dance?
"Tarantella" is a famous folk dance and the typical musical instrument is the tambourine.
January 18th was an unforgettable day! So many memories, so many things explored, so many smiles and interactions! We hope there will be other moments like that! Thanks to our friends we have learned to be more aware and proud of our culture!
Time flies...
A nice square root clock, made by Ilenia, tells us all that time flies when in good company...
