MacArthur Elementary School

Principal News
Dear MacArthur Families,
Next week we will be conducting a lockdown safety drill with our students. During our lockdown drill we are trying to help prepare our staff and students for situations such as evacuations or intruders. Even though it is difficult to think about these situations, there is nothing more important than the safety of our students.
In 20219, Crown Point School Corporation adopted a safety policy called, ALICE. ALICE is a federally endorsed protocol that trains teachers and students to respond to a situation based on what’s happening around them. All CPCSC staff are trained in ALICE protocols.
Discussing topics like violence with elementary students can be challenging. We are thankful that ALICE provides an age-appropriate curriculum to do this using the philosophy “prepared, not scared.” The ALICE training for elementary schools is designed to prepare children for unsafe situations in comfortable, colorful language that takes their youth into consideration.
Thank you for partnering to keep our students safe,
Have a Great Weekend,
Marian Buchko

Parents,
Listening to music has been a hobby for several centuries. Did you know that there is a connection to listening to music and brain power? Studies show that listening to music such as classical tunes can increase memory. Next time your child is studying for a test, play some light music in the background. It will also help relieve some stress from both of you! Also, if you child is struggling with a particular lesson or topic, turn it into a song! I bet after a couple times of singing it you both you have it memorized! This can also be a simply way to spend time together as a family.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Bellamy
