Update from the Texas Education Agency
The Texas Education Agency has issued guidance that allows school districts to stop offering virtual instruction to individual students with poor grades or attendance. Texas public school districts are not required to provide online-only classes to all students. Districts must offer in-person instruction to those families that want it. Under the new guidance, districts now can deny virtual instruction to children with an average grade of less than 70 in their classes or at least three unexcused absences in a grading period. Districts must notify parents and guardians at least two weeks in advance about their intention to stop offering virtual classes to a student. Families can appeal the decision by submitting medical documentation or seeking a “transition meeting” to discuss options.

Scripps National Spelling Bee
This year's local spelling bees will determine their champions by administering an online spelling test. If you would like more information about how to sign your 4th-8th grade student up for the Leadership Prep School Spelling Bee, please complete this form before Thanksgiving Break.
Mrs. Angell will email the directions for how to sign up to those who respond since you will have to sign up through the Scripps website. She will also include the study lists at that time. The way we set it up will depend on how many express an interest. If it is a smaller group, we'll just have one school wide test. If it is a larger group, we'll do grade level tests and then have a school wide test on a different day. Each test only has 25 questions and the student with the highest score wins. We will be able to send both our first and second place winners to the County Bee.
