21 Sports ... 1 Team ... WE ARE HOBART!
Each of our fall sports are embedded in their journeys ... WORKing, WORKing, WORKing to improve every day with sights set on achieving glory. After seeing the results of this past week, progress is being made and the PROCESS is indeed WORKing!! Our kids were simply FANTASTIC competing and representing this blue-collar town with PRIDE!!
More W's than L's always makes it more fun! Our student-athletes are DETERMINED to keep their eyes on the prize and BELIEVE that putting in the WORK WORK WORK will allow the JOURNEY to take us where we want to go ... which is a lifetime of SUCCESS!
Ok, that's enough philosophy for now ... it's time for BricksCenter!

"Focus on the excitement and it will lead you through the obstacles."
The Lady Brickies were ROAD WARRIORS this past Tuesday night as they headed south on I-65 to tangle with the Lowell Red Devils. Coming out of the gate, Hobart was showing a little "bus lag" after the long trip and Lowell took advantage, jumping up to an early 3-0 lead. The Lady Brickies battled back with 2 goals to make it 3-2 at halftime! LET'S GO!!
Early in the 2nd half, Lowell scored again to go up 4-2 and things looked bleak for Hobart. Let's face it, a 2-goal, 2nd half lead is A LOT in a soccer game.
Hey ... wouldn't it be exciting if the Lady Brickies could come all the way back?
Well, excitement will ABSOLUTELY lead you through obstacles and our girls were AWESOME!! It all started with freshman Kyla Robinson attacking down the wing and laying In a perfect pass to Nestich to cut the lead in half to 4-3. It was ALL EXCITEMENT after that as the Lady Brickies were on the attack the rest of the game! Hobart tied it at 4-4 and then ... with under a minute remaining in the game, junior Cecilia Provins found senior Grace Nestich who drilled the GAME WINNER!! Nestich scored ANOTHER hat trick with 3 goals and Provins added the other 2 in the 5-4 VICTORY!
Saturday night, the Lady Brickies were once again on the road ... this time at Munster for their 2nd conference game of the week. The Lady Mustangs jumped out to an early lead and unfortunately, this obstacle was too much to overcome and Hobart could not replicate the magic from Tuesday. Freshman Kyla Robinson scored the lone goal for the Lady Brickies in the 5-1 loss.
Overall, the Lady Brickies are 3-6 and 1-2 in the NCC. These girls continue to show improvement and are EXCITING to watch! With 2 weeks left until we host the IHSAA Sectional, ANYTHING is POSSIBLE!
Boys
"You attract the energy that you give off. Spread good vibes. Think positively. Enjoy life."
The Brickies hosted NCC rival Lowell on Wednesday night at The Brickyard looking to keep the good vibes going after defeating KV 3-1 and scoring a 1-1 tie with Portage last week. In a hard fought 1st half, neither team was able to gain an advantage as both defenses were LOCKED IN and the score showed 0-0 after 40 minutes of play. The Brickies were getting shots on goal and putting constant pressure on the Red Devils ... sooner or later, something had to give - right?
Well, at the 30:29 mark of the 2nd half ... IT DID! Junior Daniel Flores Jr. put one past the Lowell goal keeper and into the net for a 1-0 Hobart lead! The next 30 minutes would be INTENSE as the Red Devils frantically tried to tie things up, but the Hobart D-D-D-DEFENSE would not give an inch and the Brickies held on for the 1-0 shutout victory!!
On Saturday, our boys hosted the Michigan City Wolves from the Duneland Conference. Could the Brickies continue to vibe? Well, with 9:13 left in the 1st half, junior Daniel Flores Jr. AGAIN HIT PAYDIRT with a goal for a 1-0 advantage! The Michigan City goalie was phenomenal, but Flores was finally able to put one past after Hobart had been actively attacking the net for 30 minutes. What had been a light sprinkling of intermittent rain throughout the 1st half turned into a DOWN POUR during the 10 minute halftime. Both teams headed back to the field to continue play under less than ideal conditions for the 2nd half. As the rain began to cease, it was senior Shaun Mirr's turn and he DELIVERED to put the Brickies ahead 2-0! Michigan City continued to challenge the Brickie D-D-D-DEFENSE and was able to cut the Hobart lead in half with about 6 minutes remaining in the game. That is as close as the Wolves would get as Hobart kept the ball moving and secured their 4th VICTORY of the season by the 2-1 margin!!
GOOD VIBES! These Brickies are enjoying life right now having won 3 straight and are 4-3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play! SENIOR NIGHT is Monday at The Brickyard against Rensselaer. Should be another good one - DON'T MISS IT!

Girls
The Lady Brickies finished 21st overall out of 32 schools who raced in the Class AAA race composed of all of the largest enrollment schools in attendance. Sophomore Sydney Belk paced Hobart finishing 81st in just over 22 minutes. Seniors Lauren Romeo (106th) and Hailey Kerlin (115th) came across the finish just 14 seconds apart after traversing the 5k course. Rounding out the varsity line-up for the Lady Brickies were sophomore Mikayla Fuentes (125th), junior Lily Butler (130th) and sophomore Dominique Clemons (166th).
Hobart had a nice pack with only about a minute and a half between the first and last varsity finishers! Now the goal is to continue dropping those times as much as possible while maintaining that pack ... if the girls can accomplish it, a deep post-season run is possible!
GREAT JOB LADIES!
In the JV race, junior Ahliyah Villaruel along with sophomores Emma Ramirez, Ja'Diah Belk and Amarea Donald represented the Lady Brickies.
Boys
Coach A tried something new this year with the boys ... running an incomplete team in the varsity race to give the youngsters a chance to run in the freshman-sophomore race. The split team gave the coaching staff a good look at where our guys are and what we can do over the next few weeks to get them where they need to be.
In the varsity race, junior Bruce Leipart ran 16:59 to break the 17-minute for the 2nd time this season ... which was good enough for a 12th place finish overall!! WOW!! Senior Bryan Cherry, running his 2nd race of the week after returning from a lower leg injury, had another solid performance finishing 105th in just under 19 minutes. Juniors Darrin Johnson (158th) and Mark Perez (162nd) rounded out the Hobart entries in the varsity race.
In the freshman-sophomore race, Hobart placed 23rd out of 39 teams entered. Sophomore Joe Meagher led the Brickies with a 73rd place finish in 19:39. Classmates Donovan Ruiz (119th), Kaiden Click (143rd), Jacob Marcayda (174th) and Jonah Wells (178th) completed the scoring places for Hobart with freshman Tommy Williamson (193rd) also competing for the Bricks.
Two weeks until the NCC Championship at Lowell ... and then the IHSAA Sectionals.
This is the BEST (... I SAY THE BEST) time of year to be a runner!

On Friday night @ 5959 Broadway, the Andrean 59ers were ranked #9 in the area and Hobart was looking for 2 things ... continued improvement on both sides of the ball and a W to open Northwest Crossroads Conference play.
By 9:30 PM CST, the Brickies were 2 for 2 :)
WOW! WHAT A PERFORMANCE! Hobart DOMINATED the '9ers for 3+ quarters ... leading 33-0 at one point ... and secured their 3rd consecutive victory with a RESOUNDING 33-10 "W"!! The Brickie D-D-D-DEFENSE was AMAZING once again! Junior Bobby Babcock was quite possibly in the backfield more than the Andrean quarterback as he WREAKED HAVOC throughout the night along with classmate Cameron Smith. The DYNAMIC DUO combined for 18 tackles and 6 sacks on the night!! Senior Matthew Benton added an interception as Hobart turned Andrean over 4 times!
On the offensive side of the ball, the Brickie line was opening holes left and right for senior tailback DJ Lipke ... and once there was some daylight, Lipke took care of the rest! DJ carried the ball 20 times for 125 yards and 3 TDs!! Junior quarterback Riley Johnston scored a late 1st half touchdown as well and senior kicker Matt Hylek finished off the scoring with 2 field goals ... one from 46 and the other from 40 yards out!!
The Brickies looked good in all 4 phases of the game ... offense, defense, special teams and FANS! I'm positive that Hobart brought more people to Andrean than the hosts did! At 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in NCC play, these guys are getting better and better ... can't wait to see what they do next!
Next up is KV @ The Brickyard next Friday night as HHS honors new inductees into the Athletics Hall of Fame! BE THERE!

The Lady Brickies opened the week with 3 consecutive matches ...
Tuesday, the Lady Brickies traveled to face one of the NCC front-runners and area #4-ranked Andrean. Our girls BATTLED and were able to challenge every point, but just couldn't quite get over the hump and lost 25-13, 25-16, 25-11 in a match that was more competitive than the final score.
On Wednesday, it BACK HOME AGAIN as the Lady Brickies welcomed Hammond Morton. In addition to the Lady Governors, the Hobart also welcomed back on of our own - senior Addison "The Hammer" Metz after missing time with an injury. In the first "Yohan's Army" event of the year, Hobart took command early with an impressive 25-16 win in the 1st set and never looked back! The 2nd & 3rd sets were identical 25-14 scores as the Lady Brickies won easily 3-0!
The Lady Brickies are an even 10-10 on the season with 3 weeks remaining before IHSAA Sectional play begins over at Crown Point. This week is HUGE for Hobart with 3 NCC matches in 4 days. LET'S GO BRICKS!!

Boys Tennis
That's EXACTLY what the Brickies did this past week earning a SWEEP of all 3 matches and gaining some much needed confidence and continued momentum with IHSAA Sectional play a week away!
On Monday, Hobart brought both their rackets and their BROOMS at our boys SHINED by sweeping the Griffith Panthers right off the court 5-0!! The Brickies were so dominant that Griffith only won 1 game the entire match combined! Almost across the board it was Hobart winning 6-0, 6-0!
Wednesday, the Brickies traveled across County Line Road to battle the Wheeler Bearcats.
After experiencing the THRILL of a comeback win last week against Highland, it was like deja vu for Hobart as we again saw 3rd set come-from-behind wins from junior Max Jancich (#2 singles) and classmates Chad Tomaga & Nick Kolopanis (#1 doubles)! Solid performances from senior Evan Kara (#1 singles) and junior Carter Mohr & sophomore Ethan Cover (#2 doubles) clinched the 4-1 VICTORY! Coach Davis was so fired up about how well our boys played, he decided to treat them to some DQ to cool off. :)
On Thursday, SENIOR NIGHT for #1 singles player Evan Kara brought NCC and IHSAA Sectional rival Andrean to the friendly confines. Kara was lights out in his 6-3, 6-4 win at #1 singles! Jancich smoked the 59ers #2 singles player 6-2, 6-0 and the #2 doubles team of Mohr & Cover were also BIG winners by blanking their Andrean counterparts 6-0, 6-0! A win at #1 doubles by Tomaga & Kolopanis gave the Brickies a 4-1 WIN!!
Hobart is currently 8-3 on the year with 3 to play ... Merrillville, Valpo and KV ... this week. The Brickies will host the IHSAA Sectional starting on Wednesday, October 2nd and look to bring home the trophy for the 1st time since 2016.

Girls Golf
This was a week of emotions for the Lady Brickies as they celebrated SENIOR NIGHT with a pair of victories last Monday and the bowed out of the IHSAA post-season on Friday, which drew an end to the storybook fall season for our girls.
Monday, SENIOR NIGHT included a double-dual meet against Griffith and Bishop Noll at River Pointe Country Club. Seniors honored prior to tee-off were Mady Buxbaum, Skye Lipke, and Faith Scott. Hobart shot a team score of 219 to best both the Lady Panthers (251) and the Lady Warriors (235) to secure their 13th WIN of the fall, which is the MOST WINS in recent memory for Lady Brickie golfers! Senior Skye Lipke once again was the low scorer for Hobart with a 52. Juniors Alivia Ahner (54) and Claire Duca (56) were next and senior Mady Buxbaum (57) finished off the scoring spots for the Lady Bricks.
On Friday, the girls traveled to Palmira Golf and Country Club to play 18 holes for the IHSAA Sectional hosted by Lake Central. Palmira is one of the tougher courses around and the Lady Brickies played well - finishing 5th overall out of 11 teams competing. Unfortunately, only the top 3 teams advance to the regional, which means an AMAZING fall season of golf came to an end.
This was a season to remember for Hobart ... one that put them back on the map in Region girls golf! Congratulations to Coach Gary Roach, assistant coach Deb Broom, and all of the Lady Brickies for a TERRIFIC year! WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!!
... and for the 3 seniors ... always remember, ONCE A BRICKIE, ALWAYS A BRICKIE!
