A Note from the Principal
Dear families,
What a wonderful month of reading we had at SBES! In all, our students and community read over 39,000 minutes this month. That's over 650 hours, and over 27 days! WOW! Norse Nova, our reading spaceship, traveled the whole solar system... even Pluto, which isn't a classified as a planet any more, but is still so beloved!
Today we celebrated March is Reading Month with a TRAVELING PLANETARIUM! Thank you, National Park Service, for bringing the stars into our school for some amazing night sky watching. What a great celebration of our solar system learning!
We hope your family has a wonderful Spring Break!
As usual, if you need anything at all, please feel free to call, text, or email: (231) 534-4439 or fehrenbachs@suttonsbayschools.com.

Upcoming Additions to our SBES Staff and Programming
We are excited to introduce you to our newest staff member at Suttons Bay Elementary, Lauren O’Connor. Mrs. O’Connor is our Middle School Social Worker and will be joining us in the elementary to support student behavioral and mental health needs. Mrs. O'Connor lives in Traverse City and has a two-year-old son and two dogs. She teaches skiing in the winter and is excited to be supporting our Elementary School!
We are excited to have Mrs. O’Connor’s support in the launch of a new SBES resource for students, the Learning Lab. In the Learning Lab, students who are struggling inside the whole-class setting can continue their learning in this alternative setting. Students in the Learning Lab can help with continued learning activities as well as staff-supported consequences and re-teaching for misbehavior.
Lauren Heise, our Academic Support Coordinator, is also supporting the Learning Lab and working with Mrs. O’Connor. Mrs. Heise will continue to work with small groups of students that need additional support in math or reading, and she will be coordinating 504 plans for elementary students.
We’d like to extend a big thank you to both of these staff members for extending their roles while Mr. Symons leads Ms. Graverson’s classroom. The “Lauren Team” brings lots of expertise and we are lucky to have them!
Thank you, PoWeR Bookbags, for your amazing love for literacy. We LOVE shopping for books before our breaks!
We are offering NORSECare Summer Camp again this summer! Some of our amazing school-year staff are going to be on-site this summer offering themed weeks full of exciting adventures and activities.
We are able to offer 6 weeks of camp plus 1 week of Camp Invention, a national STEM day camp that is a tradition at Suttons Bay.

Community Connections
We love to partner with SB Bingham Library!
Our School has access to TumbleBookLibrary through the Suttons Bay Bingham District Library! It’s unlimited, and it’s FREE for you to use from home!
You can use your computer, tablet, or mobile phone. All you need is an internet connection. There are no downloads: books are streamed right to your device at the click of a button.
There are over 250 animated, talking picture books! The site also features Spanish and French books, read-along chapter books, non-fiction books and videos, and graphic novels. When Mrs. Topol visited our library classes last week, she was able to show all of our elementary students how this site works. Ask them to show you too! Happy reading!
