Principal Ponderings: Happy Mother's Day!
My sister and I were the best of friends or the worst of enemies growing up. Not much in between. One fine Mother's Day morning when I was 10 or so we weren't seeing eye to eye and while Jackie and Chuck were out running errands my sister, Kelli, and I were about to ruin the day (with a little help from our dad). During a sibling spat, Kelli was running away from me and ran into the bathroom. Well, about the time she was closing the door my foot was attempting to keep it open...maybe with some added force. BOOM! Foot through door. That was strike one. Strike two was the purchase of a vacuum by my father who then attempted to pass it off as a Mother's Day present (you should be cringing now, because I am). Vacuums are things bought on a Tuesday from Walmart or Meijer when we swallow our pride and realize we can't fix it. Not for Mother's Day. Strike three was the fact that we hadn't gotten my mother a card. Needless to say, our ride to brunch was a quiet one. Good thing extended family joined us or our meal would have been the fastest ever. Mother's Day events have remained pretty uneventful since then, but it sure sticks out as a day to remember for my family.
Enjoy the day!
