7th Grade Cheerleaders Give Back!
On Monday evening, our 7th grade cheerleaders got together to assemble blankets for My Very Own Blanket in lieu of their normal practice. MVOB is an organization started and run by Jessica Rudolph, a resident of our Grizzell attendance district! From their website: "MVOB is dedicated to warming the heart of every child in the foster care system with a blanket which gives them a feeling of comfort, security and, most of all, a SMILE! ... These gifts are comforting and familiar, and children can take them from one home to another. Through the loving care of volunteers, thousands of blankets are donated each year to children in foster care. Each blanket is personalized with the child’s name, a tradition for My Very Own Blanket since 1999."
15 completed blankets will be delivered from the GMS 7th grade cheer team to My Very Own Blanket to be distributed through social workers and foster care agencies, both locally and throughout the US. MVOB has partnered with agencies in all 50 states, as well as Canada and the Virgin Islands! In 2021, they exceeded their goal of 25,000 blankets! Now GMS is helping them start on the 2022 goal of 30,000!! Kids making a difference in the lives of other kids!
To learn more about how you can get involved with My Very Own Blanket, visit https://www.myveryownblanket.org/ to find out how to volunteer or make your own blankets at home!
