Weekly Update
Dear Families,
We have had a great week of learning! With the beautiful weather (most days!) a lot of learning took place outside: staff are ensuring that students are provided with mask breaks throughout the day, as well as taking advantage of exploring all of the beauty of the fall changes in our school yard, and in our neighbourhood during community walks and scientific scavenger hunts.
Yesterday was "Early Childhood Educator Recognition Day": we are so incredibly lucky to have Mme Goffaux, Mme Garster, Mme Martin, Mme Jackson-Grundy and Mrs. Beckett on our Kindergarten Team. Their expertise, compassion, patience and creativity is demonstrated every day, as they ensure that our littlest learners are safe, engaged, supported and loved every day at school. Merci, mesdames! Vous êtes les meilleures :)
We are very proud of our Cross Country runners who competed at the LDSB Finals yesterday at Fort Henry Hill. Atom Boys and Girls won the gold team medals, Bantam Girls won the Bronze medal and Bantam Boys won a gold medal. Bravo, Hawks! As always, our athletes were role-models of sportsmanship, heart, camaraderie and polite and respectful behaviour. A huge thank you to a dedicated team of staff who made this possible: Mr. Morrison, M. Heroux, Mme Goddard, Mme Fox, Mme Gallupe, Mme Oleschuk, Ms. Clarke and Mrs. Krampitz. Merci beaucoup!
This week was Bus Safety Week, and classes participated in a variety of activities to learn about how to ride a school bus safely, and what to do in case of an emergency.
Individual Education Plans were distributed on Wednesday; if you have any questions about your child's IEP, please connect with their teacher.
We have a paid yard supervisor position available (to support in the Kindergarten yard daily from 10:55-11:35 and from 1:15-1:35.) Please contact Mme Peart if you are interested in discussing this opportunity. Applicants would require a current CPIC.
The weather definitely felt like fall today! You will find a very handy "How to Dress For the Weather Guide" below, which will help you and your children make choices that will get them through some of the daily changes in temperature that may begin to occur.
The weekend looks like it will be lovely: we hope that everyone gets outside, enjoys time with friends and family, and takes a moment to enjoy and appreciate the good weather and beautiful nature available to explore in our community.

Willow Youth Network (Formally known as Indigo Girls Group)
Willow Youth Network, formally known as Indigo Girls Group, is an organization run by young feminists for young feminists. In a non-pandemic world, WYN Kingston educates and engages youth in grades 4-8 in discussions about current topics facing the young generation. Clubs foster a safe space for learning and analysis of topics such as self-care, anti-oppression, mental well-being, women in STEM, and much more. These subjects and methods of delivery promote personal growth, increased self-esteem, and mental and physical well-being.
We recognize that much of the language used in WYN's -- previously known as Indigo Girls Group -- programming and even within our name, is not inclusive to transgender and non-binary people. We are working to become a safer and more inclusive space for everyone who would like to be a part of a feminist-led organization that works to empower marginalized genders.
After exploring alternatives to safely accommodate the current circumstances brought on by Covid-19, we have decided to create virtual weekly modules for girls to complete at their own pace. Each module will focus on a societal theme affecting youth of marginalized genders and will include videos, discussions, and interactive activities.
Modules will be released at indigogirlsgroup.com under ‘Kingston Branch’ each Friday starting on October 29th, 2021, for 6 weeks.
