Save a child.
748 million people do not have safe water.
There are 500k children whom die from diarrheal diseases cause by unsafe water.Over 1,400 children die each day from these diseases.
Who is affected by unsafe water everyday? School Children
Many children in Africa end up having to leave school because they need to get water for their families or they are sick of diarrheal diesesas caused by poor sanitation and unsafe water.
Adolescent Girls
Adolescent girls often leave school because when they reach puberty there is no place they can go in private. There are no proper, private sanitation facilities for these girls which makes them uncomfortable. They are often teased for it so they end up leaving school.
Elderly People
Elderly people are greatly affected by the lack of safe water. Many are not able to get water for themselves so they rely on family members, or they may pay somone to get their water. They are also more vanurable to diseases like infants. Without proper care they can become very ill and sometimes die.
Women
Women are the ones who usually go and retrive water. These trips can be dangerous. They could easily fall into the water where they could drown if they didnt know how to swim. They are aslo at risk of being kidnapped, the trips are long and with no way to communicate they an be taken.
Infants
Infants are more vanurable to diseases caused by poor sanitation and unsafe water. Like elderly people infants need to be taken are of. If they aren't they could easily die from the diseases.
Sanitation
2.5 billion people don't have access to bathrooms. Many people die from diseases caused by poor sanitation and by drinking unsafe water. Clean, safe water can save half of the 500,000 people whom die from diarrheal diseases. Since many people do not have private restrooms people have to use the bathroom in the open. When they use the bathroom out in the open two things happen, one is that diseases spread faster, and the water sources can get polluted.
Why is it important to have safe water?
Water is a life necessity. Without water life on earth could not be possible. Without water crops die. When the crops die there is no food available for that family, which leads to famine and starvation.
Our Approach
With the money donated we take plumb technicians to teach the people in the community how to fix broken pipes and keep them running for a long time. We keep the community involved in each step to make sure they understand how to maintain the working project and to not abandon it.
