Happy President's Weekend
Dear LCJSMS Community,
I hope that this communication finds everyone well and that you have a healthy and safe long weekend. Whatever plans, please enjoy the time with those special in your lives.
Tardy to School
Over the past few days, we have fielded a few questions regarding our tardy policy. Please read our school policy below, which is also included in the 23-24 LCJSMS Parent Handbook.
For late arrivals to school (arriving after 8:00 AM), your parent/guardian must call the Attendance Secretary at 908-273–1491. When you come, you should report to the Attendance Secretary for a pass to class. Students must always have their ID lanyards on to use for tardy swipes. You should also present a note from your parent/guardian stating why you are late.
Students with four (or more tardies) will be assigned a Central Detention, regardless of reason. Students will be given additional detentions for subsequent tardy points (8, 12, 16). These totals will be run once per month at the end of the month. Central Detentions are held from 2:55-3:35 PM, Tuesday through Thursday. Further, extended detentions (until 5 PM) will be assigned for students with chronic tardiness. Additionally, students may be excluded from school activities for chronic lateness.
Student IDs
Our school district places a strong focus on school safety and security. As such, we are intensifying our focus on students wearing their student IDs at all times throughout the school day. Students who are not wearing their IDs could incur disciplinary consequences after a certain number of infractions (3 or more per month). We would appreciate the support of our parent community in emphasizing that message at home.
If your child(ren) still needs their student ID, please have them fill out this google form or go to the fishbowl during homeroom. Students are expected to be responsible for the management of their student ID.
Minding Your Mind - Parent Presentation
At our Principal's coffee in January, I spoke about our upcoming mental health assembly, which will be seen by all three grade levels on Monday, February 26th. Minding Your Mind is dedicated to ending the stigma surrounding mental health. Additionally, the organization focuses on prevention through education. It concentrates on storytelling to teach about the signs and symptoms associated with mental health and strategies to combat them. In addition to speaking with our students, the organization will host a virtual parent session on the evening of February 28th. Please see the flyer for details. Additionally, I have attached a link of the speaker whom will be meeting with our students.

Investing in Our Future
LCJSMS Construction Update
As many of you know, construction has begun for our bond referendum. Some of our recent progress with the project consists of:
- The rebar installation is completed.
- Structural steel has been installed.
- Electrical work has begun for the HVAC installation (inside the building, outside school hours, work will NOT impact students).
