Beat Florida Week Updates
Horace Maynard Middle School
Kickin' It with Kilgore:
HMMS FAM1LY,
We had a lot going on at 435 Main Street this week! It was great to see families in the building for parent meetings and celebrating our 8th grade volleyball players this week. We successfully completed our bus evacuation drills this week! Tonight we have a weenie roast for our 7th grade Victory Club students. Today is our first hat day, and I am not regretting that decision yet... that is a positive! We were fortunate to have Leadership Union County visit with us on Wednesday and the feedback we received was extremely positive. Your students are doing phenomenal job of being REAL!!
Shout out to our football boys, cheerleaders, and fans! We got a phone call from the Athletic Director at Midway bragging on our students and fans for doing things the right way. He was very complimentary of the sportsmanship and how our fans cleaned up after the game. Thank you for Respecting Everyone, Being Accountable to Self and Others, and Living a Life that Matters!
We have a couple of important dates coming up. Student Council forms are due next Friday, please see the flier in the newsletter for more information on that. October 3rd will be our fall picture day. This picture will go in the yearbook. We will also have fall sports pictures that day as well. Speaking of fall, Fall Break is right around the corner. Please have conversations with your students about the importance of getting all make-up work turned in before the break!
We appreciate all the support from our parents and community partners! Please know that if you need anything to please reach out to us!

We are getting into sick season and here are a few reminders of how to prevent the spread of infection. A true fever is 100.4 or higher. Children must be fever free for 24 hrs without medication to be at school. If your child has been actively vomiting they must also be free of episodes for 24 hrs to be at school. Remember to save absences for when your child is truly sick so that we don't run into attendance problems. We all "just don't feel good" sometimes but it is so easy to get behind if they are missing school. We want the best for every student at HMMS so please get them here if they are well.
- You may send a small hand sanitizer with your student
- Add some hard candy to their backpacks for tickles in the throat
- Send a water bottle that will close and can be refilled so that they stay hydrated
- Encourage students to NOT share food or drinks with their friends
- Make sure your child has a good breakfast and lunch-if they don't like the menu options please send something from home
- Make sure your child is getting enough sleep-that is when the body heals and resets
Let's soar right through this season and be the healthiest school in the county. Go Red Devils!
PICTURE DAY!!!

We have began small groups with all grade levels. We are enjoying working with your students and supporting them academically, socially, and emotionally. We had a HUGE turn out for our new VIP (Valued, Intelligent, Pretty) girls group and we can't wait to get that started!
