Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 6 | 25 AUGUST 2021
The Year 3 students have been preparing for their Reconciliation Sacrament. They have been learning about Reconciliation/Penance in Religious Education and attended a whole day Reconciliation workshop, which was full of fun activities. We congratulate all our Catholic students receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation last Tuesday and ask that you keep these students and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this special time.
Wellness Week - A Prayer of Gratitude
Gracious God in this busyness of my day, I sometimes forget to stop and thank you for all that is good in my life. My blessings are many and my heart is filled with gratefulness for the gift of living, for the ability to love and be loved for the opportunity to see the everyday wonders of creation, for sleep and water, for a mind that thinks and a body that feels. I thank you too for those things in my life that are less than I would hope them to be. Things that seem challenging, unfair or difficult. In the silence of my soul, I thank you most of all for your unconditional and eternal love. Amen
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
A Wonderful School Disco
I am sure you have seen the wonderful pictures posted on Facebook from the school disco. The smiles on the children’s faces speak a thousand words, they certainly had a fun time dancing and socialising with their friends on the night. It was encouraging to see so many parents volunteer their time to help run the disco, whether in the canteen, serving at the stalls, making up lolly bags or cooking food. Without this assistance our P&F could not run this type of quality event and we are extremely grateful for parent involvement.
P&F Serving Our School Community
Our P&F has grown this year to a wonderful group of dedicated parents and friends who spend much time planning and preparing for events throughout the year to build and grow our school community. We are so appreciative of their service to our students and families and their passion for our school is evident in their thorough planning, ensuring that events run smoothly and are enjoyed by everyone. Committing time to the the P&F is genuinely love in action and I am sure you will all join me in acknowledging how incredibly fortunate we all are to have such a dedicated group of people serve our school community. To our P&F members we send you all a heartfelt thanks from staff and families for your tireless work.
Wellness Week
This week is wellness week at our school. Midway through each term we place a focus on the spiritual, physical, mental, social, and emotional wellbeing of staff and students. Staff members are rostered to prepare an activity for students and staff to enjoy and which highlights an aspect of our wellbeing. As a staff we try and not schedule in meetings during this week and prioritise taking time to leave school a little earlier than we usually do to engage in wellbeing practices after school hours. I know your children enjoy wellness week too.
One Big Voice Concert
On Friday afternoon our school choir participated in the One Big Voice concert. It was a joyous occasion and our students looked so smart in their new OLOM choir shirts sponsored by the P&F. I would like to extend a big thank you to our talented and passionate music teacher, Ms Agnello for all her hard work which ensured that our students were well prepared to sing in Australia’s biggest children’s choir.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Some of our Year 3 students celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the very first time this week. We congratulate them and thank their teachers for preparing them so well to receive this Sacrament.
Book Week
This week is Book Week and I know our students are looking forward with great excitement to come to school dressed up as their favourite book character on Thursday. A very big thank you to our dedicated librarian Mrs Mahar for preparing the library for all the book week activities and to our Book Week Committee for their work in preparing events for Book Week. We are always so grateful to staff who go beyond their classroom duties, to help make our learning community such a vibrant one.
Auslan
I would finally like to advice the school community that Mrs Alison John-Lewis has taken leave for the remainder of this year, and Mrs Giulia Palladini will be taking the children during Auslan for lessons provided by their classroom teachers in Term 3. We have been granted permission not to report on Auslan this semester.
God bless you all.
