PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
November was a great month of meeting, connecting, and celebrating our students, staff, and YOU! We met many families during conferences and teachers connected with you about student growth, goals, and celebrations. We hope to continue this communication moving into the heart of the winter season. Because student performance is based on end-of-the year standards, it is important to be aware if your child is on the right path to reach those goals at the end of the third trimester. Teachers are responsive to the needs of their students and adjust the instruction based on what the students are telling them with their performance and evidence of their learning. This personalized process is different than moving on to the next topic whether the class had mastered it or not. Summit View’s teachers are more responsive than that. In order to be comfortable with the progress of your children, take an opportunity to review their work, the rubrics they receive and ask the teacher if the learning progression is occurring as it should.
The outcome of this strong school-to-home partnership that we have is reflected in our school’s successful state report card! Last month you may have heard that Summit View exceeds expectations. The engagement of students, support of families, innovative instruction, and consistent focus on our school goals have all lead us to this point. Most importantly, the environment established for your child at Summit View is one-of-a-kind and continues to foster learning in an arts integrated approach with a design and creativity focus.
We are excited to open our doors for others to see this on the district-wide See-It LIVE day December 14. We will offer tours and information to new families who are looking for a school, such as ours, for their own child. Please encourage families in your network to learn more about Summit View by attending See-It LIVE or contacting the office for a tour!
I encourage you to spend a few moments over winter break unplugged and enjoying your family traditions. Our students are encouraged daily to wonder, discover, and take risks. Practice with them at home. Make a fun recipe for a new cookie type this year, make a gift out of the recycled items from the day, or even try a mindful practice at home!
Thank you for your continued partnership. I enjoy every moment working in this school and with the entire Summit View family
