Greenlodge Weekly Update 10/23/2020
#ReachForYourBest
Complete the Student Health Survey below if your child will be in person the week of Oct 26th
Dear Families,
I'm thrilled that next week we will be welcoming all of our 2nd-5th graders in cohorts C and D. Our B cohort and 1st graders in C &D have done a fantastic job acclimating to the new routines and procedures!
As a reminder, please be sure that you are practicing social distancing at home and in the community. Mask wearing, handwashing and maintaining 6' distance is very important to help reduce the spread of Covid-19. It is very important to avoid creating "close contacts" outside of your immediate family. "Close Contact" is defined by CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes (over 24 hr period) starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic clients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. Per DPS guidelines, close contacts must quarantine for 14 days. Please do your part to keep our students in school.
As a reminder October 29th is the deadline if you wish to change from A to C or D, or from in person to fully remote. Please email me abodkins@dedham.k12.ma.us torequest a change.
Have a wonderful weekend!
~Ashley

- Please see the student handbook for full details regarding attendance.
Notes from the Nurse...
Greetings from the nurse! Greenlodge students are doing a GREAT job wearing masks, washing hands, and staying 6 feet apart.
Remember, in order to keep our schools open, we must remain vigilant by taking appropriate precautions and following COVID-19 guidelines every day. This includes avoiding indoor gatherings and not having sports related assemblies before or after games or practices.
Reminder on masks: We do not allow neck gaiters or bandanas in the school because they have varying levels of coverage. Masks with valves or vents are also not allowed. Please be sure to send your child in with a fresh, two-layer mask with ear loops (re-usable or disposable ). They should also have a spare mask in their backpack to change into if it gets damp or soiled. Be sure the mask fits properly and covers both nose and mouth without slipping.
Dismissals: With more students in the building, there will inevitably be some children who do not feel well during school. Please know I am assessing your child very carefully, and may need to call you for dismissal because their symptoms align with those on the list of COVID-19 symptoms. If that is the case, they will have to be tested. If a doctor does not recommend a COVID-19 test, we will need a letter from them stating that. We understand it is very challenging for families to arrange doctor visits and testing while quarantining until the results come back. We are upholding these strict protocols, which are in line with state and federal guidelines, to keep our students in the building for learning.
What is close contact? A close contact is defined by the CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset until the time the patient is isolated.
What to do if I am told to quarantine?
If you need to drop off any medication or paperwork, I am at the front entrance daily at 8:30AM.
Feel free to call 781-310-4248 or email me anytime to discuss your child’s individual health needs as we return to the building.

Dance Fit Boosterthon Fundraiser
This year’s main fundraiser is the Greenlodge Dance Fit Program!
- It’s a two-week program that kicks off virtually on 11/10. Families will then gather pledges for every minute of dancing your student completes (35) at the Dance Fit event, which will happen on 11/20 & 11/23.
- Students will also experience an amazing character theme, SPORTS CITY NOW! Booster’s most exciting theme yet teaches students how to navigate social-emotional awareness by learning from real kid-athletes…just like them. While they’re teaming up with the Sports City Now team, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
- Donations will go toward resources and materials to enhance your student’s learning experience. This year, we will be enhancing classroom libraries with multicultural literature. There is no pressure to give, but we invite you to help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on FUNRUN.COM. This event will be hosted virtually, so whether your student is at home or in school, they can participate!
Thanks so much for your support!
DPS Remote Learning Resources for Families
The Remote Learning Resources Site provides access to skill-based video tutorials for the tools that students will encounter most frequently. Each of the videos provide an overview of the learning platforms as well as tutorials designed to help students and their caregivers access the technologies.
In addition to these "asynchronous" video based resources, Dedham faculty members will also hold a series of virtual office hours beginning on September 14th. You will find a schedule for these opportunities as well as registration information on the site.
DYC Holiday Meals and Gift Program
The Dedham Youth Commission will be providing holiday gift cards and St. Vincent de Paul (in collaboration with the Dedham Food Pantry) will be providing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to families in need. Please contact Greenlodge's School Psychologist, Jessica Blais, at 781-310-4244 (private, direct line) or jblais@dedham.k12.ma.us with requests and/or questions.
The deadline for DYC's Holiday Gift Program is October 30th and the deadline for holiday meals is November 13th.
Library News from Ms. Bickel
Virtual Book Fair!
Start the year off right with some great new books! Our book fair is back virtually this fall! You can order books now through Nov. 1. Books will be shipped directly to your home. Proceeds from the book fair allow us to purchase more books for everyone to enjoy in the school library. Click here to start shopping!
Library Book Checkout Details
I’m so excited for students to be able to borrow books from the library! Students can borrow 2 books from the library at a time in two ways:
Search DestinyDiscover, our library catalog, to find books you want and put them on hold.
Students should click “Sign In with Google” from their Chromebook to log in without needing a password.
If you don’t know exactly what books you want, fill out the Book Request GoogleForm and I’ll pull some recommendations for you.
If students are learning remotely, I will send an email when the books are ready to pick up in the main office. If students are learning in school, books will be delivered to their classrooms to take home.
There is a bin in the main office lobby and in the library to return all library books. Please return plastic bags to quarantine and reuse as well.
The Greenlodge Library Website has more details about checking out books and other library news and links. Please reach out to me directly at sbickel@dedham.k12.ma.us with any questions. Thank you!
