5 Different Styles

Let’s get Started
Most young readers and writers think that it’s very easy to publish a book. I mean, all you to do is give your manuscript to the publisher for him to publish. But really, it’s full of twists and turns, surprises and challenges. Sometimes you will have to start all over again. There are also different ways to publish a book. You can do a Vanity, P.O.D., or a Subsidy (I will tell you about those later). But maybe if you just want to publish your book and get it over with, a Traditional. Today I’m going to tell you the history and ways to publish your book.
Truly Traditional
First, I’m going tell you about Traditional. In Traditional, there are three different ways to publish a book. Each way depends on what kind of book you are writing. Is it a picture book? A nonfiction article? Or maybe just a big ol’ chapter book. Each of those have a different way to publish. I’ll start it off with nonfiction. In nonfiction you have to categorize your book online to find an agent. And no, not some secret agent working for the government. I’m talking about a writing agent.Once you have an agent, he or she will help you find a publisher. But, you don’t need to give him your entire book. All you need to do is give him a book proposal and three chapters of it, with a synopsis of each chapter. You submit that to your agent, and he will give it to the publisher, who will either accept or deny it. And then if he publishes it you will get the royalties of the sale. Picture books and Chapter books are also very similar. In chapter books you give the give the agent the manuscript of your book, or the non edited written copy of it. Then the exact same thing will happen as nonfiction did. Same thing for picture books, but you also have to find an illustrator. You doodle a little thing of what you want your character to look like and give it to him/her. Then they will do the rest. And now we will be moving onto Serene Self-Publishing
Serene Self-Publishing
Self-Publishing can be many different things. It can be Vanity, Subsidy, and P.O.D.. But, the general idea of Self-Publishing is that you invest your own money to publish the book and produce it. That is the main really way to Self-Publish. The others fall into the Self-Publishing category, but are still different. Also, if you want to Self-Publish your book, be warned. It costs thousands of dollars to do this. Many times it will only pay off if your book becomes a best-seller. But before we move on to the types of Self-Publishing, you need to know the history.
Let’s Look Back
Let’s say that it’s back in the 1970’s. Traditional publishing is hardley a thing and self publishing costs even more money than it does now. You either paid thousands of dollars on being a cheap author whose books usually end up in the back of one out of ten libraries. Or you could pay even more money, almost double, to be able to get your books on most of the shelves. That’s what it was like for authors back then. They were often poor and in need of money. Luckily, though, that all changed in the late 1990’s when P.O.D. Publishing came out. It was low-cost Self-Publishing that made it very easy for authors to publish their books. By now, Traditional is becoming more and more popular, and many of all American authors are deciding to use it. Now, let’s skip some more years. It’s now 2007. Traditional publishing has finally transformed to what it is now, as before it also costed much more and was very difficult to find a willing publisher. But, what really brought the publishing styles into a new era, was Ebooks. Authors were making millions of of them, and it was a miracle for Self-Publishing. They made almost double the money they paid by selling their books through Amazon. Authors were now making more money than authors in the 1970’s ever would have dreamed of. And, along with Ebooks and Amazon came Subsidy, an even newer version of Self-Publishing. It was a miracle for all authors.
Vigorous Vanity
In Vanity, all you pretty much do is get really rich. You give the publisher your book, and the publisher temporarily owns it for the time that he has it. The publisher will make copies of it, then sell all the copies off that he can. You will then, instead of only getting some of the sale, will get all of it. The whole dang thing. But wait, there’s a catch. The publisher will never edit it, or even find an editor to do it for him. You will have to do all of that yourself.
Prominent P.O.D.
P.O.D., or Pod, stands for Print On Demand. In this, you have to find a certain type of publisher. And yes, they are called P.O.D. Publishers. They will help you publish your book for any price you give them within reason, and will print the books in a certain style after editing it. This way of printing is much cheaper and is able to get around to a variety of companies willing to buy it. They only make as much copies as are needed. You will, as usual, get the royalties of the sale and be on your way.
Super Subsidy
Subsidy is very similar to Vanity. Really, the only differences are that you pay the publisher extra, and the he edits the book. Everything else Is almost the same. But there are two catches. You have to pay some for editing the book, and you only get the royalties of the sale. But, the reason that it’s probably not discarded for all the money you have to pay, is that the book will go to a wider variety of places. If it gets sold in NY, you might just find it somewhere in Arizona, or maybe even Mexico and Canada.
What Is The Best? Here is what some of my fellow students said.
If you can’t see the words on the bottom row, you can tap on the picture and it will show you. Sorry, there was a glitch.
Online Publishing
You can also publish your book online. There are many different websites about helping you publish your book. For example, at https://www.bookbaby.com/quoter/default.aspx they can help you publish your book and find a good price for you. But, at other cites that make you spend hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars. These websites are very helpful to if you are uncomfortable or dislike the Self and Traditional styles.
