Notre Dame Catholic Primary School
Foundations for Life Long Learning October 31
Dear Parents and Staff
Tomorrow will be a very busy day with our combined schools All Saints Day Mass in the morning and the Official Opening of our renovated Staffroom and Support Rooms in the afternoon.
Whilst our Mass, commencing at 9.30am, celebrates the life of All Saints, I like to take the time to reflect particularly upon the life of St Anthony of Padua whose name I chose to take when I was Confirmed many years ago. Like most of us I wasn’t really sure why I chose his name but, perhaps, in a strange way, maybe he chose me, as St Anthony was a teacher, a profession that I hadn’t even considered at the time of taking on his name. Whilst I may have achieved this similarity, I continue to work on the many other attributes that this inspirational Saint is said to have possessed.
Why not take a little time to re-visit your Confirmation Saint and consider how their life has or may impact upon our own.
OFFICIAL OPENING
I’m hoping that the wild and windy weather that we are experiencing today blows over by the time we commence the Official Opening ceremony for our renovated staffroom and classrooms tomorrow afternoon. The ceremony will commence once the children have assembled in the Mother Mary Piazza at 2.00pm. The ceremony will take around 40 minutes with the children then returning to class to be dismissed after receiving a juice box and a cupcake baked by Mrs Lisa Doyle. Parents and guests are invited to join us for afternoon tea in the newly renovated staffroom at the conclusion of the ceremony.
INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS
In very challenging conditions our Interschool athletes represented our school with great vigour and enthusiasm. At the time of publishing the newsletter we are unsure of the overall results, but we are very proud of the efforts and sportsmanship displayed by all of our representatives.
OPEN NIGHT
Our Open Night and Art Exhibition will be held between 4.00 and 6.00pm next Wednesday afternoon. I encourage all families to come along to see the great work that the children have been completing across all Year levels and the wonderful Artwork that they have completed with Mrs Flexman over the past couple of School Terms.
CLASS PLACEMENTS
The process for the placement of children in classes for next year is currently being discussed by staff. There are four main considerations when determining placements:
· A range of Academic abilities
· Friendships
· Gender Balance
· Behaviour
The staff spend considerable time and consult with both previous and future teachers before deciding upon the placement of each child. We are blessed to have excellent staff at Notre Dame who go well beyond what would normally be expected so children will receive a high quality of education no matter which class they are placed in. What parents hear from children at home is not always the reality of what occurs at school so please allow the teachers to place children appropriately based upon what they see and experience daily in the classroom and playground.

The Annual General Meetings for the Parents’ and Friends’ Association and the School Board will be held on Tuesday 26 November at 6.00pm. Nominations for representation on both groups are now open. YEAR 2 CLASS NEWS
On Monday 21 October, the Year Two Classes enjoyed a great morning riding bikes and learning about pedestrian and road safety rules at the Constable Care Safety School, in Maylands.
As you can see from our many photos, we were all being safe and happy! All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves as it was an active, educational, high energy excursion. What a hands on way to learn!
On the 21st October Year 2 went on an excursion to Constable Care Safety House. We rode bikes on a pretend road and there were real traffic lights and signs. My bike was 24 inches and had gears.
My Dad came to the excursion. The director taught us to be a safe pedestrian and how to be safe in the car. In the outside part of Constable Care we ate recess on the fake road and played around and pressed the buttons. We did a task and we had to find blue boxes and in the boxes were challenges and questions about road safety which we had to answer.
My favourite bit was riding the bikes because we got to stop at the stop lights.

NATIONAL WATER WEEK 21-25 OCTOBER
National Water Week provides an opportunity to remind ourselves and teach others that access to clean water is hugely important to every aspect of our lives, and we must do our best to protect our water environments and resources, use water wisely and respect its importance in our societies.
The theme for National Water Week this year is ‘It’s time to change the world’ which encourages young people and the wider community to think about how we use water and how we can protect it, so we have it in the future.
Throughout the week students have been participating in various waterwise activities to promote awareness around water conservation
