What is it?
Spermicide is a cream, gel, foam, film, or suppository that kills sperm. Killing sperm will prevent a woman becoming pregnant after intercourse.
How does it work?
Spermicide immobilize and kill the sperm before they are able to swim to the uterus. Spermicide is placed deep into the vagina, close to the cervix. Cream, gels, and foams are squirted into the vagina, with an applicator. Films are placed by hand.
How well does it work?
Spermicide usually works well to prevent pregnancy. 71% of the couples regularly using spermicide will not get pregnant.
What are the side effects?
Side effects include an irritated vagina and irritated skin, that is surrounding the vagina. Another side effect is recurrent urinary tract infections because the spermicide can disrupt the normal balance of bacteria in a girl's body.
Who uses it?
Women who can take responsibility for planning birth control, also women who want extra protection against pregnancy use spermicides.
How do you get it?
Spermicides are found in drugstores you do not need a prescription. They are near the condoms. But be careful and make sure that there is birth control in it because if there isn't there's no protection at all.
Conclusion
Spermicide is a product that works. It is useful for couples not looking to get pregnant. However, it needs to be correctly placed in order to be effective.
